ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Operation of manual machining equipment; lathes, mills, vertical lathes and horizontal boring mills.

  • Plan, organize and facilitate jobs as assigned to the machinist shop, including print reading and interpretation.

  • Audit equipment for potential repairs.

  • Troubleshoot jobs and equipment needed to complete jobs.

  • Utilize knowledge of trigonometry, geometry and metric conversion to complete calculations encountered on different jobs.

  • Create and facilitate projects to completion, including any related paperwork or service reports. Communicate plans and projects effectively to other employees, training them if necessary.

  • Safely use rigging and lifting equipment.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist in special projects as needed.

  • Complete service reports and record maintenance.

  • Participate and occasionally lead safety meetings.

  • Provide daily progress updates to supervisor and dispatchers.

  • Work well with others in a team environment.

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITY

  • High School graduate or equivalent.

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the trade.

  • Knowledge in various areas, including gearings, bearings, seals, bushings and hydraulics.

  • Able to effectively use stationary and portable boring equipment and machine tools as well as multiple other types of tooling to meet specific job needs.

  • Understand and utilize tools for set up and layout work.

  • Capable of aligning gear cases and motors as assigned.

  • Proficient in welding and cutting of all types.

  • Proficient understanding of metallurgy and its application to machining.

  • General understanding of mechanical assemblies.

  • Possess appropriate tools per the Shop Machinist Tool List.

PREFERRED

  • Additional technical schooling or on-the-job maintenance planning training.

  • CNC Lathe experience.

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged walking, sitting, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, squatting, etc.

  • Lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation

  • Use of all necessary personal protective equipment

  • Exposed to dirt, grease, dust, noise and other elements within the work environment

  • Inside shop position
