In accordance with 49 CFR 391.53, information regarding previous employers may be used for the purpose of investigating the applicant’s safety performance history within the previous three years. This includes general employment, accident, and drug/alcohol information.

In accordance with 49 CFR 393.23, a Motor Vehicle Report covering the previous three years will be obtained for the purpose of investigating the applicant’s driving history.

As a CDL driver, the employee will be required to comply with all provisions of DOT Regulation 49 CFR Parts 40 and 382, including random drug and alcohol testing.

Possession of a valid Oklahoma Class A CDL with an acceptable driving record.

Due to “on-call status”, must be able to report to work within 30 minutes.

POSITION PURPOSE: Assists in the prevention of flooding by the effective management of a storm water drainage system.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

Starts engine, moves throttle, controls, and levers to operate two or more heavy machines, equipment, and attachments including tractor mower, tractor and bush hog, riding mowers, trencher, backhoes, loader, and grader.

Performs daily inspection of equipment, greases, oils, and performs maintenance and minor repairs.

Operates equipment in a variety of positions to include steep inclines, wet conditions, tight spaces, etc.

Installs, repairs, or replaces water mains, fire hydrants, valves, and service taps.

Sets up safe work zones and follows safe operations procedures.

Serves as lead worker, directing, instructing, and providing leadership to crew members.

Provides assistance to other departments as needed.

Performs other duties as required.

Water lines are installed, maintained, and repaired in an efficient manner.

Equipment is clean and well maintained.

Policies and procedures in city of Enid personnel manual and safety manual are understood, followed, and modeled for other employees.

New employees are well trained and assisted. Management is appropriately informed.

The City’s professional reputation is maintained.

QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.CERTIFICATES/LICENSES: Class A CDL upon hire. Department of Agriculture spraying license within 1 year of employment. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Chemistry — Basic knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.Mechanical — Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.SKILLS/ABILITIES: Ability to work independently.Accurate and attentive to detail.Ability to assist and support others. Ability to operate riding mower, tractor, vector truck, chain saw, and weed eater.Ability to mow on slopes.Ability to operate telephone, copier, and other basic business machines.PHYSICAL & MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITIONFINGER DEXTERITY: Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers.VISUAL ABILITIES: Normal vision, with or without corrective lenses.Color vision.

Depth perception.PHYSICAL STRENGTH: PDC Level: Very Heavy Employee lifts/carries 80-100 lbs frequently (34%-66% of the time or 100-500 times per day); exert push/pull force of 80-100 lbs. Extensive physical activity required performing strenuous daily activities of a mechanical nature. Frequent standing, over the head reaching and lifting, twisting, carrying, climbing, and balancing required. Frequent bending, stooping, crouching, and crawling required. LANGUAGE/COMPREHENSION: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. MATHEMATICS ABILITY: Ability to perform very basic math skills including adding and subtracting two digit numbers, multiplying and dividing with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of money and weight or distance measurement. WORK SCHEDULE/HOURS: Regular – 8 hour shift, typically 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday.Other – Variable lunch period and breaks in coordination with other personnel.May be required to work nights and weekends during flooding and snow and ice events, 10-12 hours.Early morning or night time hours could be required for work that would need to be done in high traffic areas, very limited.WORK CONDITIONS: Outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions (rain, sun, wind, snow, etc.)Noise level: Frequent exposure to loud noise, wearing of hearing protection required.Other work conditions: Moderate exposure to air contamination.Moderate exposure to debris thrown up by mower, wearing of protective eyewear required.Constant vibration.Improperly illuminated or awkward and confining workspace.ADVANCEMENT CRITERIA:INTERMEDIATEADVANCED5-7 years experience.8+ years experience.Proficient ability to operate grader and dozer.Ability to make minor equipment repairs.Advanced ability to operate heavy equipment in department.Expert ability to operate grade and dozer.Ability to fill in for foreman for intermediate periods of time.Expert ability to operate all heavy machinery in department.Valid CPR certification.Ability to fill in for foreman for extended periods of time.Advanced safety training.Ability to train co-workers.Lead worker of heavy equipment operators.JOB DESCRIPTIONS Job descriptions assist organizations in ensuring that the hiring process is fairly administered and that qualified employees are selected.
