Direct Support Professional (Frederick, MD)

compensation: $18.35 per hour

Full Time. 10am-6pm Wednesday-Sunday. The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is a very important role that provides personalized supported care to a young man with autism in a private home based setting. The Direct Support Professional ensures that the individuals' safety and health is maintained and he can experience the nature and quality of life of his choice based on his needs, preferences, aspirations, and decisions consistent with program guidelines, policies and procedures.

Direct personalized supports include basic living skills, communication, community interaction, job training, and recreation. Additional responsibilities include maintaining a clean, safe, stimulating living environment, providing transportation using a car with gps tracking that is provided, and supporting him to become an active member of his community. Service provisions focus on maintaining or enhancing the individual's dignity, well-being, autonomy, personal choice, self-esteem and teaching functional skills that are alternatives to maladaptive behavior.

Be a personal companion and act as a supportive friend serving his needs and working to build his independence.

Assist with and work to strengthen the individuals' many daily living needs including but not limited to: nutrition, hygiene, exercise, communication and socialization skills.

Help with personal hygiene and dressing.

Encourage individual skill development and work towards community integration.

Develop meaningful relationships and connections with him and his other staff to make him feel cared for and included in the community.

Follow all health and safety protocol.

Be a compassionate, patient and encouraging support professional at all times; you are a caregiver, cheerleader and advocate rolled into one and your work can change the lives of many for the better.

Must be able to work some overnights.

Experience preferred working with the developmentally disabled.
