Under the direction of the Director of I.T., the Systems Administrator provides installation, troubleshooting, maintenance of virtual and physical servers, host hardware, network devices, and associated software and firmware in a medium sized (50+ servers) manufacturing environment. Duties also include technical assistance and training to users as needed and Tier 2-3 help desk support. This position does require travel within the U.S. and internationally 15% of the time.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Specify, quote, build, maintain, troubleshoot, administer, monitor and document virtualization hosts and platforms (VMware), virtual machines and physical servers including hardware failures, upgrades, configurations, and hardware recycling.
  • Maintain, administer, monitor and document networking services (AD, AD Azure Sync, Intune, DNS, DHCP), file server access (NTFS, shares), network access solutions (Aruba Clearpass).
  • Maintain, administer, monitor and document networking devices (Fortigate, Cisco, Aruba)
  • Maintain, administer, monitor and document storage infrastructure and data backup tools, including Nimble SANs, NAS, backup solutions, and tape libraries.
  • For all areas of responsibility, apply upgrades/patches, resolve hardware issues/failures, monitor/report/optimize system performance, maintain installation/configuration documentation and procedures, contribute to and ensure SCS standards are met, cooperate and communicate closely with other I.T. team members, manage contractors to ensure quality of workmanship and SCS standards are met.
  • Assist and train Help Desk personnel in the resolution of support tickets and administration of systems.
  • Create and manage escalation procedures and ensures service standards are maintained and customer expectations are met.
  • Anticipate problems by monitoring key department indicators; develops contingency plans and/or corrective actions.
  • Provide guidance to staff and customers regarding interpretation of policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Ensure productivity and quality standards are met.
  • Communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully.
  • Clearly document all communications and issues and monitors problems to ensure resolution in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate new information systems, products, or helps and suggests changes to existing products or helps to better aide the end user.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist in maintaining, modifying, building, and documenting physical networks, including wireless networks, ethernet wiring, racks, patch panels, cable management systems and cable marking systems.
  • Assist in the operation, monitoring and maintenance of all SCS data centers to include electrical, mechanical, and HVAC equipment and help ensure overall availability and reliability goals are met.
  • Assist with all manner of telecommunications circuits and solutions, including but not limited to, internet/voice circuits, long distance vendors, electronic fax solutions, POTS lines, etc.
  • Help to ensure network performance and security standards are met, including management of Fortinet firewalls, Cisco routers, Citrix VPN remote access, Solar Winds (Orion) network monitoring, intrusion detection systems.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; 3 plus years related experience and/or training.
  • Not required, but preferred: Certifications in Microsoft 365, Azure, Dynamics CRM, Fortinet devices
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Not required, but will receive extra consideration: ability to speak and read Spanish, Japanese or Czech.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Addresses inquiries and resolves problems by using appropriate resources/other departments to achieve results/answers.
  • Ability to interact professionally with internal customers at off-site locations.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Present a professional attitude and handle confidential information according to non-disclosure guidelines.
  • Ability to work in a high paced and multi-task environment.
  • High ethical standards and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally 15% of the time.
