The applicant will work individually as well as with other senior Scientists and Engineers to craft and conduct proof of principle tests, work on the design and development of new products and key components.What will you do?This is a hands-on position requiring the ability to visualize and build complex hardware, attention to detail, excellent planning skills, and ability to present and interpret the data. Expertise in IR, NIR, UV and Visible spectroscopy is needed. Knowledge and familiarity with use of lasers (solid state, gas, dye and semi-conductor) is required. Our products are considered state of the art and we utilize the newest technology to continuously evolve our product line.

Initiate, plan, set up and execute laboratory testing and research programs specific to the advancement of spectroscopic technologies

Set up laser-based hardware for the detection of gases, liquids and solids in order to conduct spectroscopic analysis

Ability to work on complex, highly technical design challenges within a cross-disciplinary R&D group

Collaborate with the other Scientists and Engineers on the construction and troubleshooting of multi-disciplinary experiments

Provide analysis of test data using statistical and other analytical techniques and convert them into reports

Support development of design specifications and error budgets for key components and assemblies of the core technologies

Simulations to compute gas compositions based on spectroscopic analysis, utilizing databases such as Hitran

Participate in design reviews of the core technologies related to Optical Spectroscopy

How will you get here?Education

PhD in one of the physical sciences such as Physics or Chemistry

Experience

5 years of experience in a Research / Product Development environment

Prior experience with one or more laser/optical detection technologies such as laser absorption spectroscopy, FTIR, planar laser induced fluorescence (PLIF), digital in-line holography (DIH), x-ray measurements, particle image velocimetry (PIV), spontaneous Raman scattering (SRS), filtered Rayleigh scattering (FRS) or molecular fluorescence

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Practical knowledge in fundamental optical principles as it relates to UV, VIS, NIR and IR spectroscopy

Significant hands-on knowledge of lasers: solid state, gas, dye and semi-conductor

Excellent communication, documentation and presentation skills

Flexibility and adaptability in working in a highly dynamic and demanding environment

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with algorithm development such as Monte Carlo modeling

MATLAB and C/C Use of optical design tools such as Zemax

Prior experience with other analytical techniques
