AirLoom Energy, Inc. is a venture-backed wind energy company building an innovative new system that dramatically lowers the cost of wind energy production. We are seeking an experienced SENIOR POWER ELECTRONICS ENGINEER who can apply diversified knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices to a broad variety of assignments and fields related to wind power generation. We are presently working at prototype scale (100kW) before scaling to multi-MW utility-scale systems. You will work within a dynamic and collaborative small team to conceptualize, rapidly prototype, test and implement solutions for the design, fabrication, and assembly of a radically different wind energy capture system at our facility in Laramie, Wyoming.

Position Skills Required

  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering (EE) required, PhD in EE preferred
  • 5 to 10 years of hands-on experience in power electronics
  • Strong understanding of power converters and electric drive systems
  • Demonstrated understanding of various control strategies and conversion topologies
  • History of start to finish ownership of hardware (design, prototype, and validation)
  • Platform experience: ARM
  • Positive attitude and a willingness to collaborate
  • Creativity essential


  • Evaluate and select generator topology: induction generator, permanent magnet, switched reluctance, other
  • Select and implement power electronics
  • Select safeties (circuit breakers, contactors, fuses and high current carrying cables)
  • Modeling and simulation of the power system components and the integrated system
  • Design and test of necessary PC Boards for power electronics and control systems
  • Collaborate with mechanical and firmware engineering teams to successfully design, build, and validate power modules (hundreds of kW to MW)
  • Design, build, and testing of necessary hardware for the utility power grid
  • Integration of the hardware into the power system
  • Participate in testing of the integrated power system
  • Determine agency certification requirements, and assure compliance

Other Skills & Experience

  • Embedded controls architecture and coding
  • Experience writing controls software for high power devices (e.g. inverters, power supplies, motor drives) (optional)
  • Experience writing embedded software for power electronics projects (optional)
  • Strong coding skills in C and C (optional)
  • Possess good time management skills
