Location: Johnston, RI Description: GIS DeveloperContract: 1 Year +Rate: NegotiableOn-Site: Johnston, RI or Norwood, MASeeking experienced GIS / Geospatial Analysts/ Developers to support a Natural Hazards Research team. Must have proven track record with an on line portfolio or PowerPoint presentation of academic and work experience.This team conducts engineering based risk assessments using Opensource GIS tools that require strong programming in Python. The successful candidate must have experience with;

  • Natural Hazards research ArcGIS software suite (ArcMap, ArcCatalog and ArcToolbox),
  • Both vector and raster data GIS programming / scripting with both R and PYTHON and GDAL or other languages Automated processing and analyzing
  • Experience in ArcMapas Hydrology toolbox or ArcHydro, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling and other programming languages is a plus.
Tasks may include obtaining, processing and analyzing vector and raster datasets, geo-referencing maps and aerial photographs, digitizing, preparing input data for various natural hazard models, or post-processing model output to create hazard maps. Qualifications:
  • At least Bachelor's degree in GIS, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Urban Planning or related field from an accredited college or university.
DURING THE INTERVIEW PROCESS; 1st interview will be a phone screen. Prior to the second interview;A brief personal PowerPoint presentation creation will be required and to be discussed during the second interview which will be a WebEx. The PowerPoint should be a presentation of academic and professional work, including coding examples, aerial photos, mapping diagrams, projects lists, web links and any publications During the interview process with the research team they will ask in detail:
  • What GIS tools have you used?
  • Any Opensource GIS experience? QGIS?
  • How to manage ArcGIS Server and SQL Server When creating a data table in SQL server, do you want to create it as an admin or using a user role?
  • What work was performed with ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Web App Builder? (They are currently using ArcGIS Online interacted with ArcGIS Server data).
  • What is ArcGIS Pro?
  • Explain in depth, Python scripting experience, what scripts were written in Python, how is it being used? What commands used in Python would be for overwriting past/previous data with a script.
  • How much experience with raster datasets, what kind of work using raster data, whether performed any slope analysis, land analysis, etc.
