Job Description

Summary/Objective: Responsible for the upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation of the company’s computersystems, while maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to VEI’s policies and procedures.

Essential Functions; Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • First point-of-contact for users when they experience problems with the company’s computer systems and network
  • Gather information to define and fix issues, by troubleshooting hardware and software and liaising with vendors if needed for more information
  • Install, upgrade and monitor software and hardware
  • Responsible for data backup and recovery
  • Maintain the essentials such as operating systems,printers, business applications, security tools, web-servers, email, PCs, local and wide area networking both hardware and software and mid-range server hardware. (See attached list)
  • Keep up to date on new developments in the technology industry
  • Coordinate with outside support contractors as needed
  • Comply with all safety and SOP procedures
  • Available for OT as needed
  • Adhere to Valentine’s attendance policy

Work Environment; This job operates in an office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, calculators, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

Qualifications

Required Education, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field of study, or equivalent experience or a combination of both
  • 3+ years of related experience
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • All-encompassing knowledge of and demonstrable experience with managing the front and back ends of core IT systems.
  • Project Management experience
  • Experience managing the day to day support of the IT system

Essential Functions Cognitive (Reasoning): Apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, visual, or schedule form.

Essential Functions Mathematics; Make arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals and percentages.

Essential Functions Communication (Speech & Composition): Expression of a level to communicate fluently with employees, customers and others to obtain and provide complex information in English. Vocalize and explain detailed data and problem-solve, both in-person and by telephone. Capable of interpretation of technical materials, oral presentation of reports and able to adapt vocabulary, tone and content for listener

Comprehension and expression of a level to routinely draft narrative information, compose routine correspondence on own initiative, make comprehensive notes in English. May involve a large volume of such composition

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Employee will occasionally lift and carry up to 60 lbs., perform straight pulling, pulling hand over hand, pushing, reaching over shoulder, use of fingers for grasping, use of both hands, sit for extended periods of time, walk, stand, crawl, kneel, repeatedly bend, climb using arms and legs, and operate a motor driven vehicle. Employee will frequently use well developed coordination simultaneously. Employee will continuously Read with attention to detail seeing activities near and far and use routine hearing ability.

Employee will occasionally be exposed to outside environment, dust, radiant energy, electrical energy, work on ladders or scaffolding, and will work closely with others. Employee will continuously work in an inside environment, and work alone.

Travel: Normal travel required - ability to travel frequently for activities such as travel to other VEI facilities or other activities requiring frequent travel under normal conditions.
