ResponsibilitiesWant to be part of helping State Farm grow its business? We are looking for a Software engineer with IBM mainframe experience to join the Auto/Fire KBS [knowledge-based systems] agile teams. In this role you will help enable the Auto and Fire KBS teams to continue to provide the availability and stability of the Auto/Fire KBS systems which are vital to State Farms aggressive growth plans.These product teams support the systems used by P&C (Property & Casualty) Underwriters to help them underwrite millions of new policies for State Farm, which help grow State Farm's Auto and Homeowners business. These highly scalable and resilient systems help automate millions new business and policy change transactions annually. Auto/Fire KBS systems are based on business rules and core to the P&C policy administration systems. You will be supporting current solutions, as well as solutions to further grow State Farm's key modernization efforts. You will be involved in the design, development, testing, implementation, and production support of business and technical solutions for new and existing processes with substantial database (DB2/IMS) processing on mainframe, TP2, and ODM (used for business rules). The work spans the following systems:
  • Auto KBS, Fire KBS, RAS (used to reunderwrite millions of policies yearly to help maintain a quality book of business for State Farm),
  • Auto and Fire policy admin systems,
  • Personal Lines-Auto and Renters Modernization policy admin systems.
In this role, you will work in an agile environment and play an important role supporting the growth of a Fortune 50 company! This is a "Hybrid" position, which means selected candidates will be assigned to a facility and will spend some time working both in office and from their home.

QualificationsDesired Skills:Advanced technical skills and knowledge in mainframe design and coding that include:
  • PL/1, COBOL, JCL design and coding principles with attention to security, design, development, testing, and code quality
  • DB2/IMS, SQL
  • Experience with the Auto and Fire systems, including knowledge of the:
  • Auto Products and Fire Product lines including Homeowners, Rental Dwellings, etc
  • Auto and Fire Knowledge Based Systems (KBS)
  • P&C Policy Administration technical flow
  • P&C Underwriting business processing knowledge
  • P&C Databases - possess a detailed understanding
Knowledge of the following technologies:
  • ODM/Decision Center
  • Autoflow
  • REXX, IDZ
  • TP2
  • Splunk
  • J2EE
Additional skills:
  • Troubleshooting/problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated high levels of ownership, initiative, and collaboration/teamwork to work within a team and across multiple business teams daily on development and production support items.
  • Leadership abilities in planning, requirements, development, testing, and service of applications supported
  • Works well in fast-paced, ambiguous, and changing environment
  • Foster innovation, encourage diversity of thought, and incorporate new ideas
  • Exhibits DevOps mindset where team is accountable for product from inception to sunset
