Position Summary Performs clerical and customer service duties in support of the operations of the District Court.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Prepares, assembles, and checks court documents; establishes and maintains case files, including but not limited to documents for civil, probate, juvenile, adoption, involuntary hospitalization, appeals, jury trial, shelter care, and criminal cases.
  • Prepares and routes notices according to required procedures; calendars court dates and confirms court arrangements; notifies interested and concerned individuals regarding court proceedings.
  • Processes pro se packets related to divorce, custody and support, guardianship, and name changes; acts as liaison between individuals representing themselves and the court.
  • Enters and retrieves data through the case management system; prepares record checks by searching indexes and/or documents to obtain and verify information.
  • Performs follow-up work subsequent to court sessions; distributes judicial orders; prepares and routes certified copies and maintains payment schedules.
  • Schedules and tracks deadlines to move cases forward and meet procedural requirements.
  • Issues subpoenas for law enforcement and witnesses.
  • Processes bench warrants, petitions to revoke, and orders to show cause documents; prepares transcripts for appeals; processes judgments; posts judgment pleadings and all other court orders.
  • Verifies the legitimacy of requests for access to court information; ensures confidential information is redacted in the public file.
  • Manages jury selection and excusal.
  • Monitors and maintains District Court files; locates and tracks files.
  • Performs accounting functions; processes end-of-day reports and balances daily receipts; prepares bank deposits; receives, documents, and releases fees and other payments; receives and disburses child support payments.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

  • Knowledge of court policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of modern office management practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality rules and standards.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Knowledge of Wyoming State Statutes, legal terminology, and legal principles and procedures.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize duties, handle multiple tasks all while serving consistent interruptions.
  • Ability to learn and understand court policies and procedures, state statutes, legal concepts, principals and terminology.
  • Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations.
  • Skill in report preparation and records maintenance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
