The Sew-On operator works in the coating department and is responsible for following production schedule and keeping a sufficient amount of carpet in the accumulator at all times.
Scan roll number and record data of each roll sent through the coater
Attach “style flags” to first roll of each run
Unroll carpet and pin to sew-on table, ensuring carpet is straight (pattern/step) when pinning
Cut out damaged carpet during the pinning process and enter footage in database
Sew carpet together, ensuring that the seam is defect-free with no unseen areas or loose threads
Trim ends of carpet as needed
Re-sew seams if defect is detected
Start appropriate machines and run the correct amount of carpet from the roll into the machines
Ensure that the coater is not stopped due to a sewing function
Keep work area clean, assisting in cleaning of latex application, thread-up of coater and shut-downs or change-overs
Change thread blades as needed
Write ticket information on log sheet
Band defective cores as needed
Manage seam waste
Must be able to reach, stoop, bend, walk, climb, stand and sit throughout shift
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to use scissors and wrenches
