Our highly capable engineers excel in a team environment of challenge and opportunity on multiple projects, and partnering with Boeing business units, government customers, global suppliers, and universities to rapidly mature key technologies to production readiness.Boeing Research and Technology (BR&T) is looking for a highly capable Mid-Level Structural & Payload Design Engineer with experience in composite and metallic structural design who will flourish in an environment of challenge and opportunity on multiple projects in the areas of Structural Technology Research & Development and Air Vehicle Program Support. This is a Level 3 position for a Research & Development Structural & Payload Design Engineer within BR&T Structures Technology in St. Louis, Missouri. We are seeking those with exceptional communication and technical skills and desire to develop leadership and teaming skills. This role will support the development and execution of internally and externally funded Research and Development projects as well as targeted program support across the Boeing Enterprise. The qualified candidate will have experience with state-of-the-art and emerging advanced structural design methods and tools including an understanding of traditional aerospace composite and metallic structural design principles, as well as additive manufactured structures and non-aerospace composite structures is desired. Successful candidates will have the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical persons, ability to carefully document technical findings, results, and critical lessons learned, and technical acumen in the domain of advanced structural design. Position Responsibilities:

  • Develops, integrates and documents structural and interior payload system requirements to establish the system design
  • Develops, maintains and modifies structural and interior payload system and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle
  • Performs, integrates analytical and test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications
  • Manages supplier development, test and production activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals
  • Develops new design/analysis processes and tools to improve the effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort
  • Investigates emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements
  • Works under general direction
Security Clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 5 or more years' experience, Master's with 3-years or more experience or PhD with some experience.
  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
  • Demonstrated expertise and/or experience in using state-of-the-art CAD tools to develop aerospace structure designs.
  • Ability to develop clear and succinct documentation of analysis using MS Office Suite of tools
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • 3+ years of experience with NX and/or CATIA
  • Experience working with PLM software including TeamCenter and/or Enovia
  • Very good communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to articulate complex technical topics in an understandable way to other engineers at a deep level and summarize concisely and simply for managers at a higher level.
  • Strong interest in learning and exploring new design methods and tools
  • ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Typical Education & Experience: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standardRelocation:This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.Hybrid:This position allows telecommuting.
