Description/Job SummaryThe primary responsibility of the Associate Accountant is to perform a variety of intermediate-level accounting and clerical duties, relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The Associate Accountant works under moderate supervision using a certain degree of analysis and judgment.The Associate Accountant directs and/or assists in all aspects of the association's loan accounting and performs accounting activities related to the maintenance of accurate and complete accounting records and resulting managerial reports/financial statements.The Associate Accountant also greets vendors, customers, and other visitors; and operates a switchboard to route incoming calls and place outgoing calls.Responsibilities/DutiesLoan Accounting Duties Operates specific accounting system applications for data entry, information retrieval and/or inquiry Processes payments received (taking payments, making deposits, issuing loan checks, processing payments in Front-End, posting loan checks, keying statement of loan activity forms, non-cash forms, reviewing note-modifications, renewals) Verifies accuracy and completeness of repetitive accounting documents, identifies discrepancies, resolves issues, and determines appropriate courses of action according to established procedures. Prepares routine recurring journal entries. Assembles, analyzes, and audits various accounts, as assigned. Performs reconciliation of key accounts for the Association. Suggests and implements new and improved procedures. Assists all branches on any daily work or loan accounting questions and issues.Office Duties Answers a multi-line switchboard and direct calls to their destination Greets customers and answers questions Stocks office supplies for the Administrative OfficeRequired QualificationsEducation and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field. Excellent organization and time management skills are required.Excellent skills in both written and verbal communications are required.Ability to work independently in fast pace environment with the demonstrated ability to take initiative, establish priorities, work under time pressures, meet deadlines, and exercise independent judgement.Capable of using analytical skills to solve problems and issues is required.Excellent command on word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation and graphics software applications is essential.An understanding of accounting practices, systems, and processes is essential. An understanding of banking practices and loan accounting systems is essential.
