The NMCA team provides assurance that accountable nuclear material is controlled and accounted for during a variety of manufacturing processes. We are looking for dedicated candidates with a strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and continuous learning/improvement to monitor the plutonium production processes at Los Alamos National Laboratory. This is an exciting opportunity for high performing technical professionals to shape the future of nuclear material processing operations at Los Alamos National Laboratory by working collaboratively with internal stakeholders to improve real-time accountability of special nuclear material while innovating and finding more efficient means of maintaining critical requirements. Process Monitoring is a new program to this site, requiring unprecedented integration amongst process engineering, operations, and NMCA personnel for a common cause.This position will be filled at either the Material Control & Accountability Specialist 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.Production Process Safeguards Monitor 1 $65,700 - $104,400At this level, you will collaborate across organizations to understand the production processes in your assigned area. This will include collecting operations’ data and performing reviews to ensure that nuclear material processing is being controlled within established process control limits. You will support investigations of process control issues to reconcile differences and trends and develop recommendations for improvements where applicable. Knowledge and experience in critical problem solving is a strong advantage in this role, as well as a desire for process improvement and willingness to take on a new challenge.Production Process Safeguards Monitor 2 $79,200 - $129,00At this level, you be able to conduct process control issue investigations with limited support, assist in developing integrated schedules, provide status, and recognize scheduling conflicts. The Process Control Associate Level 2 is expected to develop an understanding of the interdependencies of processing to offer comliant solutions to safeguards issues, as well as identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.What You NeedMinimum Job Requirements:Ability to apply safeguards concepts and principles to manufacturing processes that use accountable nuclear material.

Experience collecting data from a variety of sources and the ability to analyze and interpret data based on defined criteria.

Ability to make compliance determinations consistent with requirements such as safeguards/security, quality, or other regulatory requirements.

Strong analytical problem solving skills with the ability to recommend technical solutions to simple-to-moderately complex process monitoring issues.

Experience communicating technical information to technical and non-technical personnel both verbally and in writing.

Additional Job Requirements for Production Process Safeguards Monitor 2:In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requ i res:Experience evaluating nuclear material measurement data to identify process control issues that can impact technical outcomes such as nuclear material accountability or other high consequence outcomes

Demonstrated ability to evaluate production/manufacturing processes to determine issues that impact process control limits, nuclear material accountability,

Experience making compliance determinations and recommending solutions for issues that impact nuclear material accountability.

Training/Certifications:Education/Experience at lower level :Position requires an Associate’s Degree inmath, statistics, engineering, physics, chemistry, quality engineering, or manufacturingand a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or, equivalent combination of education and relevant experience directly related to the occupation.Additional consideration may be given to professionally recognized training and certifications in related fields.

Education/Experience at higher level :Position requires an Associate’s Degreemath, statistics, engineering, physics, chemistry, quality engineering, or manufacturing and 6 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:Ability to create reports using mathematical functions in Microsoft Excel for report generation, presentation and trending.

Experience in at least one of the following: facility operator, nuclear material handling/processing, development of technical safety requirements, requirements of technical specifications, measurement systems (e.g., destructive analysis (DA) or nondestructive assay (NDA)), implementation of procedures, data evaluation, and/or process modeling

Knowledge and experience with nuclear material safeguards concepts and principles.
