At least two years should be in an area of specialized social work practice. Senior social workers must be licensed or certified by a state at the advance practice level which included an ASWB advanced generalist or clinical examination, unless they are grandfathered by the state in which they are licensed to practice at the advance practice level (except for licenses issued in California, which administers its own clinic examination for advanced practice). Senior social workers may have certification or other post masters training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience in a specialty. The advance practice social worker can be further differentiated from the independent practices social worker by incumbent ability to expand clinical knowledge in the profession, provide consultation and guidance to colleagues, role model effective social work practice skills, teach or provide orientation to less experienced social workers, develop innovations ins practice interventions, and provide clinical supervision for social work licensure or certification. Senior Social Workers typically practice social work in a major specialty treatment program area and/or in settings where they have little to no access to immediate social work supervision. They may be assigned to work with special patient populations with highly complex health or mental health problems, such as social work case managers in Housing Urban Development - VA Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) programs. The social worker assigned as the SUD specialist at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center and VA community based outpatient clinics aligned with the medical center is responsible for providing high quality case management , clinical treatment , famil y , individua l , and group therap y , advocacy , aftercare groups for continuing support , and coordination of linkages to other appropriate VA or community service providers and/or agencies as needed by the client. This is accomplished in collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Have a master's degree in social work (MSW) from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), including but not limited to the Masters in Social Work (MSW) degree. Licensure: Be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level. Must have a valid driver's license. Pass a pre-employment examination background check. Social Workers must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j. Grade Determinations: Senior Social Worker, GS-12(1) Experience/Education. The candidate must have at least two years of experience post advanced practice clinical licensure and should be in a specialized area of social work practice of which, one year must be equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Senior social workers have experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgment. Senior social workers are experts in their specialized area of practice. Senior social workers may have certification or other post-masters training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience in a specialty.(2) Licensure/Certification. Senior social workers must be licensed or certified by a state at the advanced practice level which included an advanced generalist or clinical examination, unless they are grandfathered by the state in which they are licensed to practice at the advanced practice level (except for licenses issued in California, which administers its own clinical examination for advanced practice) and they must be able to provide supervision for licensure. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is GS-12.
