Additional applications will be referred as needed.Responsibilities Non-Bargaining Position Join the VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System (VATVCBHCS) as a Supervisory Non-Invasive Cardiologist. You will oversee program operations of Cardiology-Pulmology including budget and fiscal management, human resources management, strategic planning, and program development. You will ensure that clinical and administrative functions are integrated in order to provide optimum utilization of available resources. Ensure the quality and timeliness of services provided, customer service as well as compliance with applicable standards. You will be responsible for the general or technical supervision of all clinical programs and overall technical and administrative oversight of Cardiologists, Echo Technicians, Pulmonologists, and Respiratory Therapists in the health care system. Clinical programs include Cardiology (non-invasive), pulmonology testing, diagnostic studies; X-rays, electromyography (EMG), electrocardiograms (EKG), pulmonary function testing, and C-PAP fitting. Other duties include: Provide a full range of cardiology evaluations to determine the type and degree of illnesses within the cardiology scope. Ensure that work assignments of the other members of a clinical team are carried out by performing a range of administrative duties. Conduct on-going intensive reviews and appraisals to ensure the accomplishment of objectives and adherence to standards set by the governing and accreditation bodies. Coordinate and negotiates resolutions to complex problems; prepares special reports and responses, Congressional responses, and other correspondence service related as necessary. Applies knowledge of contemporary Cardiology practice; articulates and communicates assignments, projects, problems to be solved, actionable events, and objectives, and advises on work methods, practices, and procedures. Oversee the training of graduate level Cardiology trainees, medical students, resident physicians, as well as members of other professional disciplines. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Alternate schedules may be necessary to meet the needs of the organization.)Financial Disclosure Report: Not requiredPreferred Experience: At least 3 to 5 years of professional supervisory cardiology experience, preferably in VA or the Department of Defense Advanced skills to provide a full range of cardiology evaluations to determine the type of degree of illnesses within the cardiology scope Advanced skill and knowledge of Contemporary Cardiology practice Working knowledge of cardiology budgetary requirements, fiscal planning, workload projections, and productivity measures Working knowledge of cardiology regulations and preparation for accreditation surveys; e.g. The Joint Commission, OIG and/or CARF.RequirementsConditions of EmploymentQualificationsBasic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. For foreign medical graduates, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Board Certification: Physicians are generally not required to be board certified for employment in VA; however, three circumstances in VA require physician board certification: If the position being filled is required to be a supervisor for medical students or physician residents (including fellows), the LCME, ACGME or AOA standards requiring a particular board certification credential will apply. If the position being filled will have faculty status with an affiliated medical school (for example, in joint recruitments with affiliated medical schools), then a medical school requirement for board certification will apply to the jointly recruited position. If the position being filled is required to be board certified by virtue of specific VHA policy (for example, as director of a cardiac catheterization laboratory or Director of Clinical Laboratory Medicine), then VHA policy requiring board certification will apply.] Proficiency in spoken and written English. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. For employees who do not meet all the basic requirements required in this standard, but who met the qualifications applicable to the occupation at the time they were appointed, the following provisions apply: Such employees are considered to have met the basic qualification requirements for the purposes of transferring or reassignment to another physician position within VA. Employees who were appointed on a temporary basis prior to the effective date of the qualification standard may not have their temporary appointment extended or be reappointed, on a temporary or permanent basis, until they fully meet the basic requirements of the standard. If a physician who was retained under this provision leaves the occupation or VA employment, the employee loses protected status and must meet the full VA qualification standard requirements in effect at the time of reentry or reemployment.
