Under direct to general supervision, assists veterinarians and researchers in anesthesia, surgery, post-operative care, radiology, animal care and treatments.

Observes animals and reports abnormalities, sickness, and injury. May assist in diagnostic and preventative procedures or treatment of the animal.

Maintains medical records and assists with inventory.

May assist in training new veterinary and/or animal care technicians.

Performs related responsibilities as required.

Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take special precautions against and/or be immunized against hazardous agents.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A high school diploma or equivalent AND one year experience as a veterinary technician,

OR

A high school diploma or equivalent AND two years experience as an animal care technician,

OR

Graduation from a two-year veterinary technician program or bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.

A valid Georgia's divers license and an insurable driving record.
