PURPOSE OF THE JOBAs a key member of the Mineral Wool (MW) manufacturing team, the Process Excellence Leader (PEL) is accountable for US process technology, and for assuring products meet or exceed customer expectations. The PEL leads the further development of current US MW process technology. The PEL is accountable for driving defect elimination by working with the plants to provide clarity on root causes of defects. The PEL is technical spokesperson for US MW plants assuring long-range technology plans drive continuing improvements in productivity and product quality. The PEL works in close cooperation with the Process Technology department in the Global Mineral Wool Center of Excellence.Reports to: Global Technical Director for Mineral Wool Center of ExcellenceSpan of Control: Regional process leadership for MW manufacturing plants in the United States at Joplin, MO and Wabash, IN. Collaborator in strategic technical planning for global MW manufacturing network.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Safety and environmental

  • Fostering safety behavior when visiting at the plants
  • Building a culture where safety is a true condition of employment
  • Accountable for creating and updating concept safety instructions with relevant Process Technology Manager(s) (PTM)
  • Creates and maintains operation instructions in cooperation with relevant PTM's
  • Leads problems solving on environmental equipment
  • Actively works towards sustainability targets
Metrics:
  • Safety metrics : BBS, RIR, First Aids, Near Misses, SAFE and Critical 6
  • Required emission limits are met
Investment and process design
  • Takes responsibility of the technology, i.e. technical solutions equipment used within MW
  • Cooperates with the plants in investment matters; ensuring that pre-studies for capex investments are properly done.
  • Approves pre-studies with relevant PTMs
  • Maintains current technical solution and provided input to PTMs for further development
  • Dimensioning of new equipment and line technology
  • Defines PI-diagrams
  • Serves as the link between the plant, the PTM and designers for investment designs
  • Gives technical support for purchasing department
  • Supports equipment implementation
  • Supervises start-up of new investments and production lines
Metrics:
  • Capex investment are executed in agreed budget and time
  • Investment will delivery expected outcome
Production support
  • Leads trouble shooting in the plants when case is escalated
  • Accountable that escalations are solved, and that Transfer of Best Practice (TOB) on escalation findings reliably results in rapid, appropriate application of new findings between regions of the world; to/from US, Europe and Asia
  • Analyzes product and process data, providing feedback on performance and trends, and making recommendations to optimize performance
  • Ensures that corrective actions are implemented
  • Accountable for developing existing technical solution
  • Approves Direct Material Specification
  • Checks and evaluates the present solutions used in our plants taking into account performance and cost matters and bringing forward new improvement initiatives.
  • Develops operational procedures for safe and effective use of process
  • Networks with other regions and the Science & Technology Center (S&T) to identify and implement best practices.
  • Closely communicates with product managers and other departments to develop new products to market and ensures ability to produce them in agreed time frame.
  • Manages the technical process audits. Approves improvements in both technology and operation/maintenance procedures.
  • Follows factories performance and reacts proactively if targets are not met. Will provide fast in-site support.
  • Oversees critical product characteristics and critical process variables, cost metrics and environmental compliance
  • Supports the sourcing department by executing Supplier audits at critical suppliers
  • Cooperates with Design and Project Engineers, Maintenance Manager, Productivity Manager, Performance Improvement team and with suppliers in order to find the best solutions and develop the equipment in this area.
  • Contributes in customer complaint process in terms of quality of the supporting and monitoring plant activities to achieve high quality of resolutions and the time to answer and close the process.
  • Coordinates testing of new materials
  • Contributes to creating innovative solutions
  • Is expected to travel without notice to support Manufacturing during emergency conditions.

Leading and Developing talents
  • Member of the COE MW NLT
  • Coach and train US MW plants Technical leads
  • Organize process trainings for MW in US
  • Leverage and spread best practices globally between that plants
  • Coach factory personnel to technical and process related matters as well as problem solving matters
  • Identify, understand, and teach others the Critical Product Characteristics required to provide our customers with a quality product
  • Coach, counsel, and train all employees on process control and data analyzing tools

JOB REQUIREMENTSMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BS Mechanical Engineering, or other relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent experience-based technical expertise
  • High knowhow of Mineral Wool production process, with the focus on cupola melting, fiberizing and collection
  • Have an understanding of various processes and systems
  • Ability for fast reaction and willingness to travel to other locations, up to 50%
  • Fluent written and spoken English skills
