Wages for part-time activity assistants near Bellingham, WA

$13.50+ per hour, DOE

As a part-time activity assistant at Christian Health Care Center, you’ll help older adults who live in a long-term care setting stay active and engaged. You’ll have the chance to bring fun and lightness to their lives each day in meaningful ways.

What does an activity assistant do?

NOTE: During the COVID-19 pandemic, our activity program has shifted. Most activities are currently managed on a one-on-one basis. After COVID-19, we will return to more traditional group gatherings mentioned below.

In this role, you’ll be part of the “t-rec” team, working in our community recreation center. You’ll encourage people who live here to socialize and attend events, and you’ll help escort them to and from those recreational activities.

One day you may help someone write a letter or send a card, another day you may help paint fingernails or facilitate video chats between those we serve and their loved ones. You will have many opportunities to chat and engage with older adults who appreciate what you do.

Are you a planner? Do you like to coordinate and set-up activities, crafts and games for others to enjoy? Are you flexible, patient and kind? If so, this could be a wonderful experience for you.

Skills and traits therapeutic recreation/activity assistants should have

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have a positive attitude and work well with others. You’ll need to accurately document information, follow procedures, exhibit solid communication skills and have a pleasant, professional manner.

Maintaining an excellent attendance record is important to this role because people will be counting on you to have activities ready to go at scheduled times (based on a monthly activity calendar).

Experience is welcome and appreciated, or on the job training will be provided. Nursing assistant certification is preferred but not required.
