Emergency Services Unit

Whether its chest pain, broken bones or a deep cut that needs stitches, we're prepared to take care of your medical needs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our board-certified Emergency physicians, physician assistants, nurses and paramedics are trained to handle any medical crisis. We are committed to providing immediate, expert care for children and adults.

  • Bed count: 18 beds
  • Types of Cases Commonly Seen: Stroke, Abdominal pain, Chest Pain, among others
  • Approximate Number of Patients Annually: 18,000
  • RN to patient ratio: 1:4in Main; 1:6 in Fast track
  • Skill Mix: Registered Nurses and Paramedics, Unit Coordinator/Secretary
  • Major Equipment Used: Alaris pumps
  • Schedules: 12- hour shifts
  • Dress code: Scrubs (individual provides their own)
  • Complete computerized charting ("Electronic Health Record") for patient assessment and care documentation via Meditech
  • Electronic medication administration record (eMAR) is used for the delivery of all medications provided to patients and has significantly reduced errors associated with the administration of medication hospital-wide
Position Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) Emergency Room oversees and directs the care of all patients presented to the Emergency Department and provides nursing care for a wide spectrum of illnesses and injuries including lifesaving procedures in all types of emergency and trauma situations to chronic medical problems, minor illnesses and injuries.The RN serves as the primary nurse leading the collaboration of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care. Oversees and directs the care of assistive personnel, maintaining final accountability for the care given to assigned patients. When the need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • A nursing diploma or ASN - BSN preferred.
  • A current Florida State Registered Nurse license.
  • Previous RN ED (ER) experience is highly desired.
  • CEN is a plus.
  • Recent basic EKG course completion.
  • NIHSS and CPI course completion preferred; within 30 days of hire.
  • Current American Red Cross or American Heart Association Healthcare Provider (BLS & ACLS certifications) and PALS certification
  • Lifting 50 lbs maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills, ability to read/comprehend written instructions, ability to follow verbal instructions, PC skills.
