Job Description

The Director, Global Employment Law and Compliance is responsible for providing advice and guidance on a wide variety of global employment, labor, and human resources issues, and regulatory compliance issues that arise from the day-to-day operations of a growing, global, technology company. This position will also be responsible for managing employment-related disputes and litigation, if any, worldwide. The attorney will work closely with management and will supervise outside counsel. While this position calls for a substantial amount of independence, the successful candidate will operate as part of a close-knit team of supportive, open, friendly lawyers, paralegals, and other professionals.

What You Will Do:

  • Provide timely guidance to the Company, senior executives, and Human Resources professionals on employment, human resources, and labor matters, including all policies and procedures.
  • Oversee labor and employment litigation, including developing relationships and managing costs to ensure effective use of resources.
  • Oversee the internal and external investigations of complaints concerning violations of Company policies, laws, and regulations.
  • Assists in the management of outside counsel handling employment matters and participate in fact investigation, discovery, motions, mediations, settlement and trial where appropriate.
  • Provide training to the company’s Human Resources team, business leaders and employees on an ongoing basis.
  • Proactively advise senior management on employment compliance to accomplish business objectives without undue risk.
  • Keep the company’s senior management informed of significant labor and employment decisions, legislation, and regulatory rulings that may affect the company’s business or policies.
  • Manage the Company's global compliance program, including the Company's ethics hotline, Code of Conduct, and Code of Conduct training.
  • Provide timely guidance to the Company on all Code of Conduct issues, including FCPA compliance, anti-corruption issues, conflicts of interest, gifts and entertainment, trade compliance, and antitrust/competition issues.
  • Manage the Company's third-party due diligence program and escalations relating thereto.
  • Oversee all compliance investigations including fraud and anti-bribery/anti-corruption investigations conducted by Internal Audit team.
  • Provide training to employees and managers on regulatory compliance issues.
  • Prepare top-down executive ethics communications and ethics awareness materials.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the Company's business, people, markets, brands, facilities, customers, and competitors to identify trends, anticipate issues, provide business-oriented solutions, and formulate appropriate long-term strategies.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • The successful candidate will hold a law degree from a top-tier school and be licensed in good standing to practice law in California.
  • At least 6 years of legal experience focused on a combination of labor and employment matters and regulatory compliance issues, including at least 2 to 3 years of in-house experience.
  • Experience handling international employment matters including in Canada, Latin America, APAC, and EMEA regions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work creatively, efficiently, and cooperatively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Superior organization and project management skills.
