About the job: Apprentice TechnicianService King's DoD SkillBridge Apprentice Technician Program offers a comprehensive automotive technician apprenticeship to transitioning service members, enhancing their knowledge of repair principles, techniques and procedures. The program will provide hands-on experience within an organization operating 335 locations in 24 states. This program is designed to develop skills in order to prepare participants to take on Lead Technician roles within the collision industry. The program will run from three to six months depending on the participant's availability.The SkillBridge Apprentice Technician program allows candidates to broaden their experience with and knowledge of all elements of the vehicle repair process. We are looking for hardworking people with mechanical aptitude, a strong desire to learn, and who take pride in providing quality work.What You Will DoDuring the program, SkillBridge Apprentice Technician participants will gain an in-depth understanding of technician career opportunities through practical application and learning. In this program, the SkillBridge Apprentice Technician participant will learn from a highly skilled Lead Technician who is accountable for providing quality and timely repairs. Responsibilities of the SkillBridge Apprentice Technician and opportunities for learning are noted below.Training: Receive real world and hands-on training from a Lead Technician to learn and

develop skills necessary to become a body technician in the collision repair industry. Theareas of focus in such apprenticeship are as follows:Understand Safety Protocols: Select and use proper PPE, demonstrate understanding of proper hazardous waste handling and disposal, and demonstrate correct care methods for shop and personal equipment

Read Estimates and Work Orders: Ability to identify basic vehicle and customer information within the Repair Order; Identify needed repair process and labor amounts

Understand Electrical and Mechanical Repair Elements: Identify electrical components; Diagnose basic electrical issues and replace when needed; Remove, replace, and install basic mechanical components

Repair and Replace Plastic: Identify type of plastic; Determine repair or replace; Describe various repair methods; Describe repair process SOP

Repair and Replace Sheet Metal: Identify weld type and panel joint type; Identify and complete disassembly of parts being replaced; Install, align, and adjust all bolt panels, accessories, trim pieces, etc. that are needed to complete repair

Complete Structural Repairs: Set up and measure as needed to prepare for the repair; Weld and perform structural repairs by completing structural straightening, steel part sectioning, etc.

Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum QualificationsMechanically inclined service members that have experience working on vehicles

Attention to detail and time management skills

Ability to work in a high performance, fast-paced team environment

Proven record of complying with safety requirements

Preferred QualificationsKnowledge of repair principles, techniques and procedures

Certification in body repairs

Knowledge of collision industry including high-level knowledge of insurance procedures and requirements for a variety of carriers

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions :This role is based in a body shop environment. During the repair process, physical activity such as kneeling, bending, squatting, lifting above shoulders, standing for long periods of time is a part of daily activity. Also the role involves repetitive tasks involving manual dexterity and lifting heavy objects. Must be able to push/pull parts carts and cars with assistance.Working environment consists of: Exposure to fumes, chemicals, dust, along with high levels of noise as well as regularly exposed to working near moving mechanical parts. Subject to weather conditions both inside and outside.Employment:For the duration of the program, participants shall remain employees of the US Department ofDefense and all compensation and benefits shall continue to be paid through the US Departmentof Defense during such period.
