Job Summary:
Foremen must have the ability to run jobs small and large, read blueprints, order materials, motivate crews, conduct general and safety meetings, train new employees, and follow company safety rules. Duties include consulting with PM, subcontractors and consultants on design issues or change orders. Foremen/Superintendents are responsible for conducting weekly safety meetings and the implementation of company safety policies.
Foremen/Superintendents are responsible for management of the job site. Management responsibilities include keeping abreast of crew and employee challenges and successes, ensure job site efficiency while mandating safety, and upholding employee morale. Foremen/Superintendents are also responsible for enforcing scheduled hours of work for their crew.
Essential Job Requirements:
Job Qualifications:
Education: Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent, College degree preferred
Experience: Minimum 8 years full time carpentry experience required and minimum 5+ years in high end custom residential carpentry preferred
Experience: Five+ years residential construction field management and leadership experience preferred.
Safe Lifting: Use proper lifting techniques when moving lumber and other materials. Always ask for assistance when moving heavy items.
PPE: Wear personal protective gear such as ear protection, safety glasses, and gloves at all times on the job.
A similar combination of both education and experience will be considered.
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
Journeyman Carpentry Skills: Perform advanced layout and be competent in performing all facets of construction from frame to finish carpentry. This includes hand framed roofs, stairs, log and timber work, and windows and doors. Be competent in performing concrete, architectural and structural steel erection and install, thermal and moisture installations, cabinetry, drywall and finishes.
Construction Document Interpretation: Able to read blueprints and cross reference schedules and details to find all needed information
Construction Document Development: Draw and develop details and sketches
Scheduling Skills: Write and follow a construction schedule and track and follow labor hour’s budgets.
Mission Statement:
Accountable for ensuring all completed work on site including other trades is completed within BRB’s safety, quality, and productivity standards, while providing guidance, scope delineation and supervision to subcontractors and BRB employees. Develop team members and subcontractor partnerships through leading daily operations, construction techniques and BRB’s safety, quality, and productivity standards. Lead “Bags On” by example supervising and driving all aspects of construction process on site.
Objectives
Develop and lead crew teams while acquiring necessary tools (per BRB tool list) and learning leadership and planning role (per BRB skills and competencies list).
Teach, train and develop individuals and teams.
Teach, train and develop Journeyman Carpenters to become Foremen
Ensure BRB Standards are met in: Safety, Quality, and Production
Create, maintain, and enforce a rolling 4-week schedule and communicate to PM so he/she can update the master project schedule
Order all needed materials and schedule all subcontractors according to the master schedule and 3-week schedule
Ensure job site always has a fully stocked first aid kit and a fire extinguisher
Be the first on the job site in the morning and the last to leave
Hold weekly safety meetings at each job site. Topics should focus on current or upcoming operation procedures, MSDS’s on any construction products used, examples of any recent accidents or incidents
Train to safe operating procedures
Complete accurate job reports daily which include:
Date and weather conditions
All employees’ time and work performed including category numbers
Overall percentage of work performed on the job
Hourly usage of Blue Ribbon Builders’ equipment
Employee mileage or reimbursements
Subcontractors on site
Materials received/delivered to the job site
Conversations with the owner, architect, or subcontractor
Inventory transfers from the shop or to/from other job sites
Initiate change order approval for any variation from plans and specifications.
Understand and enforce execution of the quoted work scope of each sub. Notify PM of any discrepancies, or potential change orders.
