Job Description:This position focuses the majority of their time producing analytical solutions (reports, dashboards, tools, etc.) for leadership and stakeholders across the organization that supports business or clinical initiatives. This position provides consultation and support in the development, analysis, interpretation, and management of a variety of highly complex data sources to support process improvement, operations, strategy, cost reduction and increased patient safety and satisfaction. The Consultant level Data Analyst is a thought leader and expert in their area of expertise within Intermountain. Acts as a business partner who prescribes analytical solutions based on a solid understanding of the business. Translates analytical knowledge into persuasive and business-friendly terms. They are viewed within Intermountain as someone with a deep knowledge across a breadth of inter-related areas. They have a notable presence in the external community, including national user groups and forums.This role is currently open to SelectHealth employees onlyThis position is responsible for providing analytical support - typically at a system-wide level. May work as part of a system-wide team or interact with stakeholders across the system. Typically this position performs analysis on highly complex projects under general supervision. This position works with data sources serving the needs of customers in one or more business areasCore Essentials:Creates reports that answer complex business / clinical questions including automated report functionality / distribution. Creates reports that follow best practices for report style, validation, documentation and publication. Creates interactive reports using prompts, conditional rendering, cascading prompts, drill-though capability, and report bursting.

Writes more advanced SQL including tuning / optimizing queries and influencing architecture design (i.e., working with Data Architects to design / modify tables). Considered a Subject Matter Expert by other Analysts. Demonstrates an understanding of Analytic Functions and Regular Expressions. Could be a certified SQL expert (e.g., Oracle SQL Certified Expert or similar).

Uses sub queries and the With Statement in addition to more complex functions (e.g., Substr, ToDate, date calculations, etc.) to produce high quality material.

Assists in the identification of data quality (accuracy, completeness, etc.) issues. Assists with the process of database design for assigned projects. As appropriate, trains other individuals and teams in the routine use of data collection, analysis, and reporting and interpretation tools for measuring performance.

Demonstrated an understanding of Primary / Foreign Keys, Table / Field Aliases, and Partitions / Indexes.

Provides project management / project leadership as appropriate to drive timelines and deliverables.

Trains others on skills and competencies required for previous levels of Data Analyst.

Acts as a thought leader and expert within their area of expertise.

Acts as a business partner by prescribing analytic solutions based on a solid understanding of Intermountain's business. Consults with customers on new ways to apply analytics to bolster their business. Translates analytical knowledge into persuasive and business-friendly terms

Actively networks and builds professional relationships throughout Intermountain and in the community and national user groups and forums.

Upon invitation, makes presentations to internal and external user groups and forums. May participate in case studies conducted by external groups

Additional Essentials:Collaborates with corporate and region resources to design, create, test and implement analytic tools (databases, reports, web applications, dashboards, etc.) that support enterprise / region needs and to improve data collection and reporting strategies (minimize duplication, redundancy, etc.).

Demonstrates high level SQL and data extraction skills (i.e., Uses pre-defined scripts, changes parameters, GUI query (e.g., MS Access, tools with drag-drop query creation capability, and Excel cubes).

Uses standard Intermountain Reporting tools to generate reports for end users that interpret data for others to promote evidence-based decision making.

Possesses a fundamental understanding of the domain's data and associated data models and uses it to produce high quality material.

Compares data output to ensure data accuracy. Creates basic QA test plans and validates data for accuracy

Responsible to document work / projects per enterprise-wide standards (reports, project tracking, databases, etc.)

Understands the appropriate use of indexes, partitions, ability to understand ERDs

Uses and analyzes Intermountain data sources (EDW, ORMIS, AS400, Essbase, Risk Management, etc.) to meet local and enterprise needs.

Provides consultation, data analysis, and project management for clinical and business stakeholders across the organization. Communicates technical / analytical concepts to others.

Shares important and relevant information with the team. Proactively offers suggestions, provides resources, volunteers for assignments, and removes barriers to help the team accomplish its goals.

Contribute to Intermountain's analyst community by participating in monthly analyst community events such as ASK (Analysts Seeking Knowledge) through presenting, teaching, and mentoring.

Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree with seven years of analytics experience. Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.or -

Master's degree and five years of analytics experience,and -

Demonstrated proficiency and an advanced working knowledge of SQL (structured query language) quality improvement principles, theory, study design, or statistical modeling.and -

Demonstrated experience in developing, analyzing, interpreting, and managing a variety of complex data sets.and -

Demonstrated capabilities in planning, participating, and managing a variety of complex analytics projects with little or no oversight.and -

Strong experience using industry standard BI, statistical, or analytical tools and technologies.and -

Demonstrated proficiency using advanced tools, statistics packages, or programing languages such as R, Python, JavaScript, HTML5, JSON, VBA, etc.and -

Experience consulting and coaching leaders, customers, and peers on data analysis best practices, trends, tools, and techniques.and -

Demonstrated competency at presenting complex information to a variety of audiences such as conference settings or large workshops and an active participant in a wider analytics community.and -

Demonstrated strong proficiency using word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet and e-mail, and scheduling applications.and -

Demonstrated experience in a role requiring effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.and -

Demonstrated applied understanding of data visualization design best practices.Preferred QualificationsDegree in an analytics-related field such as statistics, mathematics, information systems, computer science, finance, economics, or an MBA with an emphasis in analytics.and -

If degree is not in an analytics related field, ten years of analytics experience demonstrating proficiency performing the job essentials at this job level.and -

Advanced experience with SQL query tuning.and -

General experience in healthcare or subject matter expertise in the job area (such as Actuarial, Clinical Programs, Clinical Services, Compliance, Finance/Accounting, Human Resources, Management Engineering, Quality, Revenue Cycle, Select Health / Insurance, Strategic Planning, Costing, Chargemaster, Budgeting, etc.).Physical Requirements:Interact with others requiring the employee to verbally communicate information.and -
