In this role, you will join a team that is on the cutting edge of designing advanced concepts for structures which operate from cryogenic to high temperature (>2000 F) in support of space, launch, missile, aircraft, and hypersonic systems.The successful candidate will have familiarity with manned space flight, missiles, hypersonics, hot structures, and/or thermal protection systems (TPS), including associated material systems such as polymer matrix composites (PMCs) and ceramic matrix composites (CMCs), refractory metals and ceramics, metals, and super-alloys. Experience working on hypersonic programs and platforms is highly desirable. This candidate will be a motivated self-starter who can plan, coordinate, and lead the execution of trade studies, conceptual studies to critical design review (CDR), drawing releases, hardware fabrication, experimental testing, data analysis and reporting, and technical transition to production.This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.Position Responsibilities:

  • Work with minimal supervision and/or lead small teams by communicating and coordinating with program managers, suppliers, and internal technical team members
  • Preparing documentation for design and customer reviews (e.g. internal design reviews, Preliminary Design Review [PDR], Critical Design Review [CDR]) to ensure structural design requirements are met
  • Develop and document preliminary designs (e.g. structural arrangements, layouts, interface definitions, load paths, surface definitions) for vehicles and structures by evaluating concepts
  • Lead the creation of structural designs (e.g. detail, assembly and installation, drawings/models) using accepted design practices (e.g. company design manuals, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance [GD&T], military specifications, design for manufacturing and assembly) to meet structural requirements, cost, and weight objectives
  • Lead and oversee prototyping and demonstration hardware fabrication and integration, interface with suppliers, direct development of test plans, and ultimately execute test and evaluation phases of a development program
  • Utilize project management tools and practices to execute tasks to technical, cost, and schedule requirements
  • Train and mentor junior colleagues and present work at conferences, workshops, and customer meetings
  • Manages supplier development, test activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals
  • Assists with investigation of emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements
  • Lead Research & Development projects
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor, Master, or doctorate degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry
  • 5+ years of experience working with a design tool (CAD package) such as Catia and NX
  • 5+ years of experience designing structures at the integrated vehicle level (system thinking)
  • 3+ years of experience designing thermo-mechanical structures using dissimilar materials, operating in a high temperature environment
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Doctorate or Master's Degree in Engineering
  • Active DoD Secret clearance
  • Experience with hypersonic vehicle design
  • 9+ years of experience working with CAD software tools such as Catia and NX
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Experience in a role that required strong interpersonal and communication skills
Typical Education/Experience:Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience).
