Ormco R&D Engineering and Machine Shop ManagerUnited States, California, BreaNewEngineeringOrmco29Total ViewsApply for JobShare this JobSign Up for Job AlertsJOB SUMMARY:TheOrmco RD and Machine Shop Manageris responsible for research, planning, and implementing new programs and protocols into their company or organization and overseeing the development of new products. Responsible for overseeing the entire development process of new products and programs, from the initial planning phase to implementation or production. The RD manager should also stay informed on what is happening in the research and development field at large in order to make sure the company is up-to-date and current with the most advanced RD developments. Also supervise and coordinate activity in a machine shop and make sure operations are carried out efficiently and safely. Train employees in the proper use of equipment, enforce safety regulations assign task and oversee direct employees work.This includes managing the activities listed in the project timelines and monitoring the output of all project participants (including co-workers, contract manufacturers and consultants). Types of collaborative projects include:

Technical development of new products (on site and contracted manufacturing)

Resolution of technical issues in existing products

Contractedresearch

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work with senior leadership to develop a long term strategy related to new products.

Capturing user requirements by working with clinical experts.

Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods with creative thinking.

Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow and proper machine allocation

Coordinates and oversees workflow throughout the production process and communicates with management team.

Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.

Maintains accuracy and tolerance specifications of projects and adhering to quality assurance procedures.

Collaborate with other RD functions to ensure effective R D environment

Research, design and evaluate materials, assemblies, processes and equipment

New concept generation, prototyping, testing and data analysis, process development, and verification and validation of Class I and II medical devices for the orthodontic industry.

Prioritize and manage multiple projects with overlapping deadlines.

Research, generate, and prototype cutting edge orthodontic solutions including the use of multiple rapid prototyping technologies such as 3D printing, machining methods, and injection molding.

Identify and monitor trends in new technologies and generate impactful and innovative product prototypes that account for return on investment and market valuation analyses.

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelors of Science in Mechanical, Biomedical,

Manufacturing Engineering or other related disciplines.

5+ years of managerial/supervisory experience to provide leadership and direction in managing RD team organization.

5+ years CNC management experience.

Knowledge and experience of machining a variety of materials, CNC set up, operation and programming.

Demonstrated experience in Mastercam and/or CAD experience.

Strong, demonstratable experience in SolidWorks or equivalent 3-D CAD software.

Knowledge of Design Control requirements and Quality systems.

Knowledge of GLP (Good Lab Practices) and GDP (Good Documentation Practices).

Possess manufacturing knowledge and experience.

Ability to travel 20% for visits, training, Kaizen events.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to demonstrate proficiency and manage across all dentistry disciplines.

Demonstrated tenacity, resilience, and leadership experience that enables to organize and lead projects, overcome challenges, and propose solutions.

Understanding of machining processes, equipment technology, shop procedures and how to read mechanical and electrical drawings. Knowledge of federal, state and local safety and health regulations with regard to safe use of machine tools is also necessary.

High intelligence and well-developed analytical skills
