OverviewMercy San Juan Medical Center, a Dignity Health member, is a nationally recognized not-for-profit hospital located in Carmichael, California, serving the areas of north Sacramento County and south Placer County. The 370-bed facility is one of the region’s largest and most comprehensive medical centers, caring for more than 150,000 people each year and contains the only Comprehensive Stroke Center in the greater Sacramento region.ResponsibilitiesThe incumbent is responsible for technical, clerical, and transportation duties for the department and is involved with the preparation, distribution and delivery of medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The technician must demonstrate competency in patient care for neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. Other duties within scope of practice as assigned by supervising pharmacist. The technician may be required to work at another GSSA facility.QualificationsExperience:

One year of acute care hospital pharmacy practice experience or a 6 week pharmacy technician externship at the hiring facility.

Demonstrated knowledge of the legal restrictions on the activities of non-licensed personnel in a hospital pharmacy, medical abbreviations, pharmaceutical terminology and calculations, and generic/trade names of medications.

Experience in the preparation of intravenous admixtures and antineoplastic /chemotherapeutic/hazardous medications

Licensure:

Registration with the California State Board of Pharmacy as a registered technician.

Certified Pharmacy Technician from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board- preferred.

Education:

Completion of an ASHP accredited Pharmacy Technician program is preferred

Special Skills:

Experience working in a USP 797 clean room is preferable.
