The ideal candidate will be responsible to develop and transform the Quality Management System for the operation. He/She will lead quality engineers in daily duties and continuous improvement projects. Acts as the ISO 9001 representative and manages the compliance of specified plant standards of nuclear certification and established military specifications.Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:Drive cultural change throughout the entire operation as it pertains to quality by establishing high level expectations & standards around the definition of quality.

Lead the internal quality department for annual review purposes. Assess the department in terms of skills and identify training needs. Develop a set of common expectations for the Quality Engineers (QEs).

Lead the internal quality department in disciplined data driven plant floor improvement.

Be a visible presence on the plant floor. Review processes and make recommendations to your team for improvement. Lead the corrective action process for both warranty and manufacturing related issues

Oversee product-defect data collection and assist in directing corrective actions of top product-defect and warranty items. Personally track weekly progress. Coordinate MRB process & actively resolve key customer, supplier and internal issues using six sigma or other proven methods to root cause and correct issues.

Conduct regular update sessions with QEs to review current activities and ensure that progress is being made on open projects, corrective actions, etc. Track progress against established goals/metrics and associated plans.

Track Quality System audits. Work with business unit leaders to close gaps identified in system audits. Actively lead the pursuit of an ISO compliant system. Set expectations for QEs to participate in the NPD process. Kick-start this process through active leadership during initial efforts. (i.e. participate yourself)

Prepare monthly reports that outline improvement activities for the month as well as current customer PPM levels and any returns for the month. Summarize corrective actions related to these returns. Summarize warranty status and any actions on warranty items. Suggest improvements to the QMS

Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:Bachelor’s Degree in applied science, or engineering field. Master’s degree preferred. Advanced certification a plus.

Five (5) years prior experience in Quality Assurance for consumer product manufacturer

Prior experience with ASME Code compliance

Background or substantial knowledge of six sigma problem solving methodologies

Experience in quality management systems. Experience in quality system audits

Strong proficiency of Microsoft Office Applications, Business Objects, Team Guru, etc…

Demonstrated experience working with manufacturers, suppliers and distributors

Demonstrated exceptional written and oral communication skills

Proven track record in setting and managing business targets and achieving objectives.

Successful experience working in challenging business environment where skills/abilities were stretched.

Demonstrated success in managing inter-functional challenges

Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings.

Ability to lead a team in the creation of basic manufacturing quality documentation:

Control plans - FMEA - Audits - Work instructions - OMS Procedures

Ability to lead a team in the implementation and maintenance of a layered audit program.

Ability to forge cross functional ties and partnerships. Ability to manage time effectively.

Ability to manage and coach a team of QEs in shop floor quality management

Experience in a Union manufacturing environment is a plus
