So, we ask, where will your journey take you?Job SummaryAs a member of the Corporate Financial Accounting Team, the Assistant Manager will contribute to accounting efforts related to the application of software capitalization. This position will be an individual contributor. The Assistant Manager requires an understanding of US GAAP accounting and an ability to research accounting principles.EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONSEnsure accurate accounting and reporting for software development costs
Assist in monitoring and analyzing the capitalization framework to ensure software development costs are accounted for in accordance with GAAP and MI policies
Analyze the review and application of software capitalized cost assumptions
Partner with the Manager to ensure consistent processes around the execution of the software development cost capitalization process. This will include ensuring the job aids are up to date, revised and improved as needed, and is communicated to the impacted teams and team members
Review system initiatives by partnering with cross functional teams to ensure appropriate documentation is maintained to support capitalization of development costs
Ensure appropriate useful life is assigned to the capitalized software and assess appropriateness of when to start the amortization process
Support the annual impairment testing of intangible assets
Supporting ongoing monitoring, measuring, and forecasting of assigned areas
Supporting enterprise-wide annual budget and long-range planning process to include the timely and efficient execution of these processes as it relates to the assigned topics
Assist with drafting capitalized software disclosure for external reporting
Partnering with the Finance Business Partner (FBP) Focehl and Discipline teams to serving as finance stakeholder and subject matter expert on discipline project teams as assigned
Partner with cross functional colleagues and other key stakeholders to provide guidance and/or consultation, as appropriate
Establishes strong working relationships with the relevant FBP and other project/department management, internal and external owners, and customers
Flexibility to adapt to ever evolving environment with different or additional responsibilities related to other corporate financial accounting areas
CANDIDATE PROFILEKey Talents and ExperienceAbility to develop and maintain effective client relationships and to coordinate with other departments
Strong PC skills, proficient in Microsoft Office products
PeopleSoft software experience preferred
Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles required (GAAP)
Comfort with challenging status quo to improve effectiveness
Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communications skills required
Capable of improving and documenting processes, ensuring compliance with existing processes and producing quality results
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative work environment
Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
Strong analytical skills and effective problem-solving abilities
Customer-service oriented perspective and an effective listener
Education and Professional CertificationBachelor’s degree required (Accounting/ Finance major preferred)
Minimum 3 years of progressive job experience in accounting/finance field
CPA a plus
LOCATIONThis position is remote-eligible, but candidates that are local to the Marriott Headquarters in Bethesda, MD are highly preferred and encouraged to apply.
