Senior Data Center Engineer/ArchitectTerm: 6+ month contract with extensionLocation: Buffalo, NY(This role offers a hybrid work schedule; offering the flexibility to work on-site and remotely)

Description:
  • The data center engineer specializes in designing and developing systems and networks to optimize data center operations. The data center engineers is responsible for designing, configuring, and managing information/network systems at data centers.
  • Collaborate with a broad group of stakeholders to engineer new standards and deliver improved operational methods
  • Define standards for the installation of new hardware & monitoring systems.
  • Develop new best practices that will reduce unscheduled downtime, improve operations, reliability, safety, or energy efficiency globally. Ensure best practices and global standards are in place.
  • Manage and create design of datacenter white space which includes: rack layout, hot/cold containment, network infrastructure, branch circuit distribution, power requirements, cable pathway, and projected build phases.
  • Collaborate with co-lo providers and internal stakeholders to deliver project design criteria and develop Basis of Design
  • Ensure infrastructure cabling product and installation is in compliance with local & national AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction which plays an important role in ensuring the safety of the building requirements)
  • Create, develop, and maintain datacenter infrastructure site documentation, including floor plans, rack elevations, and cable matrices
  • Responsible for availability, latency, performance, efficiency, change management, monitoring, emergency response, and capacity planning of data center (site resiliency engineering)
  • Create, review and evaluate RFI, RFP, and RFQ submittals
  • Assist in creating global data center infrastructure standards
  • Travel to new and existing data centers for engineering analyses
  • Coordinate terminal orders and cable installation, network system planning, upgrading, monitoring, testing, and servicing
  • Ability to carry design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment/mass production
  • Possess excellent communication and writing skills, attention to detail, maintain high quality standards
  • Have fluent knowledge of continuous operating redundant electrical systems, cooling systems, air flow containment systems and building management systems

Role/Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with Technology management, senior Engineers, and support teams on a regular basis to implement and manage the design, development, and execution of technical solutions that meet or exceed current and future needs of the organization.
  • Responsibilities may include infrastructure review, implementation, and design, creation of support and architectural documentation, standards, policies, analysis, and testing.
  • Regularly and independently interact with business partners of varying associate and management levels to ensure clarity of the problem/opportunity and elicit business requirements.
  • Coordinate vendor interactions and/or vendor resources as needed.
  • Mentor and coach less experienced engineers, technicians, and integrators.
  • Review documentation, proposals, and changes proposed by less experienced staff.
  • Seek to expand knowledge and understanding of Financial Services trends, practices, and technologies on a continuous
  • Follow and promote use of industry best practices, standards and procedures.
  • Maintain a strong aptitude and working knowledge of Bank applications, systems, development environments. Maintain a detailed understanding of vendor technologies and services used by the Bank.
  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
  • Minimum 6 years’ professional experience in a technical engineering position involving infrastructure design technologies, data management and interchange, system design and/or development for complex applications
  • Ability to translate complex business and functional requirements into structured high quality implementations using any variety of industry standard approaches
  • Experience in the financial and banking industry
