Participate in the development, implementation and support of hardware and software for beamline control, data acquisition, and data analysis for the Advanced Photon Source Upgrade (APS-U). The APS-U is a 500 times improvement in X-ray brightness, and systems and design engineers are needed to enable APS beamline control systems to take full advantage of this performance. This position will provide technical support in areas of expertise to APS staff. Candidate will work collaboratively with, or under direction of, APS staff and beamline scientists to implement software and/or hardware solutions to meet the full potential of the APS-U.Position RequirementsKnowledge and experience with software development in C or C under Linux-based operating systems and an ability to work with common Linux command shells is required.

Experience with software development in high-level languages such as Python, Java, IDL, Qt and collaborative software control technology such as Git is highly desirable.

Knowledge of digital and analog electronics is required.

Good communication and interpersonal skills are required.

Knowledge of EPICS is desirable.

Skill or experience analyzing, problem solving, and troubleshooting at the interface between hardware and software, and in operating electronic diagnostics equipment is required.

A technical foundation in software engineering or other scientific or engineering discipline is required. Occasional on-call support may be required and may sometimes work with minimal supervision.
