Bastyr University is seeking a Senior Director for our marketing team.

You will be joining a team environment that contributes to the health of our world in a unique way. Bastyr University is a private, regionally accredited institution that trains natural health and wellness leaders who graduate with degrees allowing them to pursue careers in the integrative medicine and wellness industries. As we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, Bastyr’s team is working on innovative ways to promote our degree programs, medical clinics and overall university brand. The person assuming this position will co-create university strategy as a member of the VP of Advancement and Enrollment’s leadership circle. You will build out the marketing and communications portions of the strategy in support of university goals.

The ideal candidate will be a brilliant writer with a creative mind and have proven success in utilizing multiple channels to generate MQLs and convert them to SQLs; a proven ability to develop and analyze successful campaigns that drive up revenue; a well-defined grasp of digital and social platforms as related to effective marketing, advertising, media, and public relations; an understanding of web development; and clearly defined skills as a team leader who can motivate, engage and support others.

Bastyr is headquartered in Kenmore, Washington with additional campuses in Seattle and San Diego. The position will be located at our Kenmore, Washington campus.

Duties:

Reporting to the Vice President of Advancement and Enrollment Services (VPAES), the Senior Director of Marketing will participate in responsibilities such as being a hands-on manager of a team of marketing professionals in two states, co-developing and then implementing strategies and programs for all aspects of the University’s marketing and communications activities, and ensuring that our external and internal communications support university goals.

The top outcomes and priorities for this role include:

In concert with other leaders across the University, develop and implement strategies and programs for all aspects of the University’s marketing activities, including:

  • Development and analysis of comprehensive marketing campaigns with a heavy focus on digital marketing.
  • Oversight of website improvements that simplify and enrich the online experience of Bastyr University.
  • Activation of communication and marketing materials and events that truly engage with an increasingly diverse audience.
  • Location of and utilization of influencers and social media platforms to engage audiences with BU.
  • Participation in internal communications planning and activation.

Develop a solid relationship with PR and ad agencies, as well as other vendors.

Envision and oversee a savvy, thoughtful editorial calendar.

Write persuasive content that can serve as powerful calls to action.

Qualifications:

Must-have Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Eight or more years of direct experience in marketing work, with at least five years participating in strategic planning and management of staff members.

All of the standard requirements of a team lead, including: the ability to build metrics and provide analysis of work, budget management, excellent written and oral communications, organization and prioritization skills, professional demeanor, and the ability to exercise confidentiality and skilled judgment.

As a significant leader in the marketing and communications functions of the University, this role requires reasonable availability and the ability to achieve high quality work, on time.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with the use of Hubspot or a similar CRM/communications platform

Experience in the following is desired: agency work (as agency or client); management of SEO campaigns; and technical knowledge and/or experience working with developers.

Experience and interest in participating in DEI best practices is important for this role.

Experience in higher education or larger institutions is a plus.
