    Engineer 1 Solutions Operations (Service Assurance)

    Core Responsibilities: Responsible for supporting customer software defined networks on the Software Defined Networking platform. Plays an important role in monitoring and troubleshooting of customer network configurations and services. Works with moderate guidance in own area of knowledge. Provides overall day-to-day monitoring of systems for rapid detection and repair of network faults. Is accountable for individual results and impact on team.- Monitors databases, networks, operating system devices, and software applications to detect service degradation and/or failures and errors.- Tests, analyzes, performs corrective actions; restores equipment and services in a timely and accurate manner.- Responds to trouble calls/alerts/emails in a timely and professional manner.- Troubleshoots and/or coordinates troubleshooting efforts for service, device or network resolution.- Identifies root causes for issues.- Develops and improves documentation to enhance and support problem analysis and resolution.- Performs trend analysis of systems to ensure optimal performance.- Complies with all established policies and procedures.- Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.- Works with Field Technicians in all Regions, as well as related Engineering departments and centers, to maintain communications regarding work orders/tickets. Instructs the field how to connect the uCPE and Underlay circuit(s).- Coordinates and resolves service issues with providers and vendors to ensure accurate and timely implementation and resolution of off-net Underlay circuit issues.- Coordinates efforts to resolve issues so all tickets are completed in a timely fashion.- Troubleshoots IP networking and security issues, providing resolutions according to established practices and procedures including executing packet captures, analyzing network performance data, reviewing security profiles, parsing log files, and understanding the customer's desired outcome.- Interfaces with customers to help educate them on the use and functionality of their service.- Troubleshoots IP and Network Security issues including routing, performance, connectivity, access, network address translation, access control lists/firewall rules, and network management protocols (DHCP, DNS, etc.).- Analyzes network performance metrics and identifies service affecting root causes to customer chronic and systemic issues. Collaborates with customer, Development and Strategic Engineering, and SDN Service platform vendor during in-depth troubleshooting.- Executes Change of Service requests through the SDN Service platform. Validates functionality after changes made to ensure customer satisfaction.- Escalates issues in a timely fashion. Provides all relevant information, accurately entering information into trouble ticket database.- Directs efforts so as to maintain service Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) within regional or contractual standards.- Collaborates with Engineering and Vendor teams on resolution of systemic problems.- Provides feedback to and supports applications/features/products under development. Assists with the software update process for existing applications, and rollouts of software releases.- Understands Network Function Virtualization (VNF) concepts and strategies including Universal Customer Premise Equipment (uCPE).- Works in a 24x7 Operations environment supporting live customers.- Supports both standard customers as well as large/complex customers with custom designs and configurations.- Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.- Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary.- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Skills:
    • Specific knowledge and 0 to 3 years of experience with Cisco and Juniper routers
    • Knowledge of internetworking designs and their applications and routing
    • Solid knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 internetworking technologies
    • Experience with protocols
    • Firewall experience such as (Cisco ASA, Juniper SRX, Checkpoint NG etc.)
    • Extensive experience with Cisco switches and routers
    • Certifications such as (CCNA, CCNP, CCIE) are a plus
