Animal caretaker/keeper needed for private zoological facility. Part time employment only. Pay will be based on experience.
Responsibilities:
Daily husbandry for a wide variety of animals.
Prepare and feed regular and special diets to exotic zoo animals.
Properly clean, disinfect and maintain cages, enclosures and exhibit areas as needed and to a set standard.
Understand safety standards and maintain safety of animals and staff.
Conduct daily observations of animals to monitor health, well-being, illness or injury. Ability to appropriately report inconsistencies to necessary staff.
Assist senior staff as needed with administering medications, providing treatment and restraint.
Identify maintenance issues and resolve or report as necessary.
The position will also be responsible for maintaining organized written records pertaining to health, feeding, water quality and behavioral observations.
As a keeper, you will be expected to learn and improve your knowledge and skills on a daily basis.
Physical and Medical Requirements:
In good health and capable of performing strenuous and/or heavy physical labor.
No history of allergy related to animals or plants, which might interfere with ability to work.
Ability to remain on feet for long periods of time, climb stairs, bend and stoop.
Ability to work in all weather conditions.
No impairment of sight, smell, hearing, touch, balance and agility of movement which might interfere with ability to work.
Physical strength, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and be able to move up to 100lbs.
