Database Administrator Honolulu, Hawaii Primarily Remote/Work From Home, but must be local on Oahu to be able to go onsite when needed. Pay: $70,000KPosition Summary Under the direction of the Manager - Databases and IT Security, performs tasks related to the stability, security, and functionality of several key infrastructure components of HDS's business systems:- Database Administration (DBA) - Performs technical and operational tasks related to maintaining database management systems (DBMS) which support HDS's business systems. This includes physical and logical hosting considerations that ensure the systems which rely on DBMS to function efficiently and securely.
- Information Security - Work with Security Operations Analyst to ensure HDS Information Systems Department has appropriate and effective security posture. This includes system patching, configuration, and hardening.
- Network Operations - Works with Network Operations Specialists to assist with system configuration, operation, and troubleshooting.
- Enterprise Content Management (ECM) - Develops ECM applications as defined by business users which catalog, manage, and protect documents and other HDS resources.
- Support systems development operations by deploying applications to production and running monthly jobs.
- Creates, maintains, monitors, and optimize databases.
- Performs database upgrades, patching, and testing. Tunes databases to optimize system performance.
- Automate database backups (by creating and maintaining scripts), storage maintenance, and data replication to offsite locations. Monitors logs to ensure backups are successful.
- Recovers data in the event of a database or hardware failure and testing.
- Maintain and administer database security access.
- Perform scheduled and ad-hoc database jobs for system maintenance and report.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database issues.
- Utilize database security assessment tool to identify security configuration issues and remediate them.
- Maintain database documentation.
- Follows established practices for developing ECM systems with the context of hosted SharePoint.
- Works with HDS business users to establish operational requirements for ECM systems.
- Ensure change management procedures are followed for system deployments.
- Deploys development projects to production environment and web servers.
- Run periodic batch jobs to populate data warehouses.
- Participates in evaluation of security framework for adoption by HDS.
- Assists in creating and maintaining IT security policies and procedures which align with the security framework.
- Participate in annual security assessment and annual IT security policy review.
- Assist Security Operations Analyst with vulnerability identification and remediation.
- Prepares for and participates in drills to test disaster recovery plan.
- Performs administrative tasks for production database and web servers.
- Assists Project Analysts with tuning their code to provide optimal application performance
- Assists Network Operation Specialists with system configuration and maintenance
- Provide training and assistance for users.
- 2 years of experience in application development, or an equivalent combination of education, training or working experience.
- 2 years of experience as an Oracle database administrator or education/DBA certification preferred.
- 2 years combined experience working in a Unix or Linux environment.
- Shell programming expertise using a scripting language such as Perl is preferred.
- Knowledge of the SQL query language and database design principles, preferably for Oracle.
- Familiarity using Windows and Microsoft Office (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science (Master's degree preferred), or an equivalent combination of education, training or working experience.
- Must be a team player, flexible to handle various tasks and multitask, and strong customer service skills.
- Ability to organize, analyze, and solve complex problems with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize with some distractions.
- Ability to handle information in a confidential manner and maintain compliance with HDS policies and federal/state laws.
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing with all levels to staff, customers, and vendors on sensitive.
