Let Metis put your skills to work for Air Force Research Laboratory Space Vehicles Directorate (AFRL/RV) in Albuquerque NM to help in the concept design, development, integration, test, launch integration, and operations and evaluation of new space technologies and engineering prototypes. We support a broad range of mission areas including Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance, Position Navigation and Timing, Space Situational Awareness, Space Control, and Weather across all classes (Class 1 “Rapid Sats” to Class 3 “Flagships”). Metis is recruiting for this position in anticipation of a new project being awarded later in 2022. Responsible for interface control during development and maintenance activities and for the integration and test planning necessary to verify that system requirements have been realized at all levels of assembly.
  • If functioning as a lead engineer, provide technical direction for the definition and development of a system or subsystem and coordinate all appropriate engineering activities.
  • If functioning as a multidisciplinary subject matter expert, perform engineering analysis, design, development, test or troubleshooting with knowledge over two or more technical disciplines, including detectors, instruments, electrical, mechanical, thermal, materials, software, ground operations, flight dynamics, mission analysis, or other.
  • Perform engineering assessment of systems or subsystems using methodologies and techniques appropriate to the systems engineering discipline, including risk management, requirements management, reliability analysis, fault tree analysis, and fishbone analysis;
  • Provide expert advice and support during the entire life cycle from the specification and analysis of requirements, through the design of the hardware or software, procurement, fabrication, assembly, integration and test, and launch and operation;
  • Identify and solve technical problems during all phases. Develop technical reports and documentation.
The candidate must possess strong organizational and communication skills and be able to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities to meet deadlines on projects. Be prompt and responsive to customer request and produce quality results in a timely manner.Demonstrated ability to resolve issues in an efficient, clear, and concise manner. Interface effectively with internal and external customers. Work as part of a team and also independently supporting the Engineering organization.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Master's Degree in Engineering, or related technical field (Required). Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for degree requirement.

Required Skills and knowledge

:
  • Minimum 10 years of acquisition experience in program support of a satellite service bus and/or ground-based satellite command and control system for use with operational and Research and Development (R&D) satellites
  • Experience developing initial test plans for smaller projects getting operational acceptance highly desired
  • Familiarity with Space System Command (Formerly Space and Missile Systems Center) process and procedures highly desired
  • Excellent and detail-oriented organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills highly desired
  • Advanced-level competency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook highly desired
