: Candidates selected for hire and employed will receive the first part of the hiring incentive, $1,500, at the successful completion of probation and the second part, $1,500, upon successful completion of one (1) year of employment with the City.Information Technology Department is recruiting for an Enterprise System Architect with an emphasis on infrastructure technologies. This position offers an option for hybrid remote or on-premise work environment as well as a very competitive benefits package.Tempe is an exciting, dynamic city and is a major hub for innovation and technology in the Phoenix metro area. The city IT offices are located in the bustling downtown area and are walking distance to ASU’s Tempe Campus and the Mill Avenue district.Tempe IT is focused on innovation and digital transformation to deliver solutions that support the city’s strategic priorities. IT staff work with a wide range of technologies and systems that support all city departments including public safety, municipal utilities, city hall, etc.The ideal candidate will have an innovative focus and broad experience with a range of infrastructure technology stacks used at the City of Tempe including:
  • Virtualization with VMWare products including vSphere, NSX, VCF/SDDC Manager, vSAN
  • Networking with Cisco products including Catalyst, Nexus, ISE
  • Cloud services including AWS, OCI, Azure
  • Security infrastructure such as Check Point
This position collaborates with IT teams that support the infrastructure and operations of all city departments as well as IT Solutions Architects, Project Managers, etc.

DESCRIPTIONThe purpose of this position is to analyze the current IT infrastructure supporting the City’s technology solutions to ensure they are efficiently designed and evolving appropriately to meet the City’s current needs, as well as to ensure they align with the City’s and Information Technology’s strategic priorities and direction. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Collaborate with other IT staff to ensure that solutions and practices are consistent across the City;
  • Assist with integrated service delivery solutions across functional areas of the City;
  • Assist with establishing long-term technical direction and strategic foresight for software applications and IT infrastructure.
  • Perform project management duties as required; act as liaison between Information Technology sections and various user departments to plan, design, develop and implement technology solutions.
  • Consult with technical teams to establish and maintain a framework for the integration and implementation of technical standards and guidelines used for the design and documentation of technical solutions;
  • Evaluate and recommend enhancements, upgrades and/or replacement for line-of business/enterprise applications and/or IT infrastructure systems and services.
  • Track and respond to problems and issues related to IT application infrastructure. Work with IT staff to resolve issues and determine course of action for follow-up;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Work Experience: Requires four (4) years of experience in Information Technology system’s design, application development and/or systems engineering/implementation. One (1) year of senior or lead experience is preferred. Experience working with cross-functional departments in Municipal Government is preferred.Years of experience are based upon a full-time work schedule (2,080 hours per year). The sum of an applicant’s full-time and/or part-time qualifying work experience must meet or exceed the stated minimum qualification. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.

Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management science, business administration or a degree related to the core functions of this position.The term “equivalent” means that directly related work experience exceeding the required work experience will substitute in equal time increments for college-level education, for example: one year of additional directly related work experience will substitute for one year of college education (30 credit hours).

This position is FLSA Exempt which means employees are not eligible for overtime compensation and/or compensatory time.

Employees in this position are represented by the United Arizona Employees Association (UAEA).
