Warehouse Book Sorting
Ohio, Columbus , 43085 Columbus USA

Vacancy expired!

We are hiring for a warehouse position. Our company buys used books by the semiload. We sort the books in various ways, we scan the barcodes, and finally send them off to be sold on the internet. The job we are most interested in filling is the book sorting position.

The books come in large boxes called "gaylords". Each gaylord is loaded into a machine called a "tipper" that hoists the box with 1000 pounds of books up where they spill onto our sorting table (see first picture). The books are then stacked with barcodes up for scanning. We keep books for local sellers, for our quarterly "in house" warehouse sale, we sell books on the internet, and the remaining books get recycled.

The job requirements are as follows. You will need to be able to work on your feet for the shift. We provide some floor padding so you are not directly on concrete. You need the ability to read the titles of books quickly. We will have you using a couple of computer devices such as a laptop, tablet and barcode scanner during the sorting process. Other tasks will be emptying trash cans, occasional cleaning, and lifting boxes not heavier than 50 lbs. If you have forklift experience this is a bonus for us. However, you do not need to know how to run a forklift to apply for this job.

Our starting pay is $13/hour. A $1 hour raise will be given within a month or before once we feel like you can work unsupervised. We are starting this position at 30 hours/week for the training period. However, after the training period we are offering 40 hours/week if you want to work that many hours.

We have a good positive working environment. Currently, we only have 2 people working at this company. The boss Stu (second picture in camping attire) works fulltime, and our longest employee Kim works part-time.
