Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Campus Life & Housing, the Coordinator of Counseling and ADA Services provides and coordinates direct services to students in the area of mental health support and referrals and accommodation services for students with disabilities. The Coordinator works closely with other departments in Student Affairs and partners with faculty, staff, and community agencies to ensure the provision of adequate mental health and accommodative services to support student development, academic achievement, and student success.

Director of Campus Life & Housing

Education/Qualifications

Minimum of master’s degree from an accredited institution in a relevant discipline such as social work, counselor education, rehabilitation counseling, counseling psychology, clinical psychology, counseling and personnel services, or mental health counseling with a supervised practicum/internship at the graduate level.

Professional Licensure with the Mental Health Professional Licensing Board of Wyoming within 60 days of employment. This may include a provisional license that is leading to the professional license.

Demonstrated experience providing education and prevention programs with preference given to experience working with college health issues.

Demonstrated experience and interest in working with diverse populations (such as international students, non-traditional age students, underrepresented student populations in higher education, LGBT identified students, and students with disabilities) and promoting an environment of equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Minimum two years’ working experience with students in higher education setting or similar environment preferred.

Case management experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge and application of counseling and human development theory and practice and its assessment and reporting methodologies.

Knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act ( ADA ) of 1990, the ADA Amendment Act ( ADAAA ) of 2008, and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act ( FERPA ).

Knowledge of Title IX and the Violence Against Women Act.

Ethical behavior and standards.

Knowledge of relevant federal, state/provincial, and local statutes which govern the delivery of counseling and psychological services and disabilities support services.

Knowledge of psycho-educational test instruments at the level necessary to review and interpret diagnostic results to determine the presence of a disability and to determine appropriate academic accommodations.

Demonstrated ability to work with and relate to a wide variety of college personnel and students.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to be energetic and creative in order to actively engage students, both individually and in groups.

Demonstrated ability to develop and implement innovative programs including goal setting and program evaluation and assessment.

Ability to exercise a high level of independent judgment and interact collaboratively with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty and staff.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Office, classroom, residential housing and presentation hall.

Primarily regular work week with some evening hours and weekends, as relates to college students

Must be able interact with a wide variety of people.

Direct Services – Counseling and ADA Accommodations

Provide short-term counseling services, including consultation and treatment, crisis assessment and intervention, prevention and outreach, follow-up and referral, and community consultation for the full range of psychosocial disorders and supporting students with personal, academic and career concerns.

Provide crisis intervention, assessment, and consultation services.

Coordinate and facilitate reasonable accommodations and support for students with disabilities utilizing the application of federal regulations and case law (section 504, ADA 1990, ADAAA of 2008).

Review and interpret evaluations to determine eligibility while working with students, faculty, and other social service agents to determine appropriate services.

Provide information about disability-related services and documentation requirements to current and prospective students, college administration, faculty, staff, parents, community referral agencies (such as Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and Workforce Services) and high school teachers/counselors.

Maintain adaptive technology resources (allocation, storage, maintenance, upgrades).

Maintain professional standards, confidentiality and ethical behavior.

Participate in on-call/emergency evaluations including some evenings and weekends.

Indirect/Administrative Services

Provide leadership to the CARE (Campus Assessment, Response, and Evaluation) Team.

Complete clinical paperwork and maintain records in a confidential and secure manner, according to Wyoming Mental Health Professional Licensing Board and CAS standards.

Maintain Counseling and Disabilities Support Services websites.

Manage the operations and program budget(s).

Follow best practice standards set forth by the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education ( CAS ) for Counseling and Disabilities Support Services

Maintain a variety of reports to track key performance indicators and identify trends.

Assess services and programs delivered.

Provide educational programming targeted toward faculty and staff regarding legal issues governing the delivery of counseling and accommodations.

Keep abreast of current research, (including outcome research), best practices in treatment and higher education through continuing professional education, consultation, networking with colleagues, supervision and maintenance of licensure status.

Outreach Education/Collaboration and Program Development

As a member of the Campus Life & Housings staff, work collaboratively to support health, wellness, prevention and education programming related to alcohol and substance abuse, ending violence against women, disability and mental health awareness, suicide prevention, healthy eating and body image and other high risk behaviors.

Develop and maintain strong working relationships with community providers and agencies.

Assists in a variety of campus wide events and activities as needed

Work with other departments to increase awareness of services available as well as the development of programs to assist with student health and safety and building the capacity of resident assistants and student leaders.

Assist with the development of district program goals by developing, coordinating, and implementing workshops and seminars relating to mental health and disability laws and serving students with disabilities.
