One person at a time.The VP, Clinical Performance & Transformation is responsible for driving operational performance, transformation and will spearhead top priority strategic initiatives across the business unit on a range of topics critical to implementing and activating ECS’ strategy. The role requires a deep understanding of clinical operations, strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and a customer-centric mindset. The VP will bring substantial and diverse health care, strategic, and operational consulting, business development and program management expertise to the table.The VP will collaborate with the ECS Strategy & Analytics team in curating data, establishing metrics and reporting to evaluate operational performance against targets. The leader will guide the team in uncovering insights and develop recommendations based on data analytics, horizon scanning and competitor analysis to optimize performance and drive transformational change. The VP must be able to thrive in a complex matrixed environment, establishing partnerships with key enterprise leaders and external stakeholders. The role requires a strong data skill set and performance drive, with the ability to lead through influence. The VP will work with senior leaders across Optum and UnitedHealthcare to deliver value for the enterprise across financial, quality, clinical and customer targets. Team members have a high level of energy, a passion for driving demonstrable value at speed, and making a positive impact both within and beyond UnitedHealth Group.The VP, Clinical Performance & Transformation is a skilled operator and change agent responsible for delivering value for the enterprise and customers, while modernizing the organization’s approach to utilization management.Responsibilities include:

Enterprise value - Work with business leaders to develop a program level strategic roadmap that aligns operational frameworks with short and long-term objectives for value delivery, incorporating market trends, customer expectations and enterprise priorities

Development, planning and prioritization of strategic initiatives

Track and trend operational performance

Analyze root cause data and develop remediation plans for gaps to target

Evaluate prior authorization and post-service UM programs to optimize ROI

Identify areas of risk and recommend areas of focus to drive incremental value realization

Build a pipeline for new value creation opportunities to reduce cost of care and improve patient safety and clinical outcomes

Facilitation, collaboration, executive presentation & engagement, customer and business partner relationships. Provide critical thinking and influence by helping to link the company’s strategic agenda to the corresponding execution plan

Communicate UM value story as measured by key performance indicators and return on investment

Partner with ECS Strategy & Analytics team:

Curate data, define metrics and establish reporting requirements for financial, quality, clinical and customer targets

Define data visualization requirements for operational and program level performance (e.g. Tableau or Power BI dashboard)

As a key senior leader of the ECS extended leadership team, leads, develops, and mentors other leaders and staff through onboarding, open communication, and nurturing of an inclusive and diverse team climate. Builds and maintains team morale and culture, and ensures systems, resources, and expertise is in place to seamlessly sustain transformational change

Required Qualifications:

Undergraduate degree required, MBA preferred

10 + years of experience in external client facing program development and management, project management, health plan management, and or strategic business planning

10 + years’ experience in progressive leadership roles

5+ year’s developing strategic roadmaps

Strong leader and motivator with the ability to mentor talent within the organization, able to provide work direction and to attract and retain top talent

Experience and aptitude to influence senior level leadership

Must have a passion for transforming healthcare, strong program management skills, and the ability to work effectively across multiple matrixed shared services and external partners.

Excellent presentation skills for both clinical and non-clinical audience

5+ years progressive experience designing and implementing change programs

2+ years' experience with health plans, with ability to articulate how experiences from outside of healthcare will help provide a transformational perspective

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated finance & business acumen

Self-managed, self-starter; thrives in a constantly changing, ambiguous environment

Excellent interpersonal skills with experience working with and influencing executive level leaders

Demonstrated ability to quantify, articulate, and be accountable for value delivery

Clinical skillset (nurse or physician)
