University Student Housing (USH) at MSU, offers a unique, on-campus living experience for students and their families as they focus on their academic success. Managing 18 active on-campus communities (Residence Halls and Apartments) which are the home of up to 6,500 residents. The departmental mission includes provision of reasonably priced living environments which are clean, attractive, well-maintained, comfortable, and include safety features; ensures the orderly and effective administration of the program through efficient management; and provides a learning environment and related co-curricular programs which promote maturity and academic success.

The USH Custodial Team provides cleaning and maintenance services in and around the residence halls, University Student Apartments (USA) and associated areas. The primary emphasis is on cleaning the public areas which include restrooms, carpeted and hard-surface floor care, trash removal, room set-ups and other related duties.

The Custodian II is a working custodian who provides lead worker direction to Custodian I’s.

Assesses and organizes workload for a team of custodians

Conducts area inspections and reviews

Assists with training staff as needed

Maintains work equipment and supply inventory

Performs a variety of administrative tasks: producing inventory reports and orders, reviewing work orders, assisting the Custodial Supervisor I with time sheets, tracking furniture, etc.

Verbally addresses performance problems while reporting up any issues to the Custodial Supervisor II for possible disciplinary actions

Performs custodial duties needed in any of the areas managed by the department
