caregiving for our mother (orleans)

Our Family needs a caregiver for our mother. She is about to turn 75 and spent her life doing amazing things including renovating building in nyc, running an antique auction company in nyc, owning and running an art school on cape cod, special needs teacher, and more. She is very creative and extremely kind and generous. She was diagnosed with frontal temporal dementia last winter. While our mom is very lovable and kind, she can ask the same questions a lot, and has a very short attention span and memory right now. We are looking for a extremely patient person who has experience with caring for people with dementia. We hope you would be bright, kind, calm, and a VERY easygoing person. A big plus would be if you have a lot of knowledge with nutrition and health to benefit our mother. We are hoping to significantly improve our moms physical heatlth and her brain health so this would be a priority with whatever you do. Yoga, swimming, mental stimulation, art would all be good.

The job would include taking care of her most likely from late morning to early evening. Things are in flux and we are still figuring out exactly what our needs are. mom. Also helping with cooking and cleaning the house is something we need as well. Doing work on the property with our mom would be great too, since she likes to be useful and active. This may be temporary work, but could potentially lead to longer term work. We are open to part time work, but if you are a good fit full time could work out. We basically need help with supervising and taking care of our mom, but also help with cooking and cleaning as well.

We are hoping to move her to Vermont at some point, potentially this fall. It would be great to have help with the move and possibly some work in Vermont to help her get settled. My brother lives with her and I come visit often from Vermont. We are trying to keep her on a very healthy, organic, and whole foods diets, so expertise in this is a must if you will help with cooking. An average day would include taking her out for half hour walks in and around Orleans (knowledge of cape cod trails is a must) and must have a drivers license. She likes to come home for a little while between her daily hikes for some food and TV watching. She will need considerable assistance using the bathroom sometimes. Also we could use some help bathing her and keeping her clean and together. She can really make a mess, so cleaning up after her is a part of the job. She really needs to be supervised most of the time and be redirected to different activities at times.
