I. BASIC PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Life Enrichment Specialist will assist in the coordination the development and implementation of a well rounded, stimulating, energizing and varied activities program for residents. The program will be planned to address the spiritual, cultural, physical, intellectual and social needs of residents specific to Memory Care and including other building programs. Programs include but not limited to Arts, Music, Exercise, Games, Individualized programs, Outings, Cultural, Social and Wellness lectures.

II. CUSTOMERS/CLIENTS SERVED BY POSITION:

The Katzin Residence Family residents, family member, guests, potential residents, staff and outside vendors/community.

III. OUTCOME WHEN JOB IS DONE WELL:

The Residents, their families, guests and potential residents will enjoy with satisfaction a stimulating program of planned activities and events both inside the facility and in the community. Residents will feel their life in The Katzin Residence is enhanced by the quality of the life enrichment programs.

IV. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma, Activity Directors Certificate and BA Degree in Recreation or related field preferred. Experience may be substituted.

V. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Prefer two (2) years proven work experience as Activities Planner or volunteer with seniors in public employment; country club, senior center, nursing facility, hotel or retirement community organizing activities for ambulatory and non-ambulatory residents.

VI. SKILLS, LICENSE, CERTIFICATION AND/OR SPECIAL TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

Current Class C drivers license. Has Class B license or must be able to obtain a Class B driver’s license (ability to drive passenger bus of 21 + residents within one year of hire). Must provide current clean DMV printout. Must be willing to submit to random drug testing as per CHP. DMV print out (not older than 30 days) prior to driving vehicle. If not licensed for proper passenger endorsement at time, must take DMV test and pass and provide another print. Must have strong communication skills. Excellent English skills. Knowledge of proper body mechanics. Computer literate software programs, i.e., word, print shop deluxe, etc. Must pass pre-employment physical/TB test and able to obtain fingerprint clearance as required by our licensure. Obtain First Aid Certificate & Food Handlers Card. Utilize excellent communication skills with residents, families and community.

RESIDENT CARE AND ACTIVITIES -

  • Assist in the planning, development, implementation, participation, and coordination of varied activities for resident activities based on a monthly planning schedule.
  • Collaborates with Director of GRC/LE, Director of The Katzin and Volunteer Services on recommendations for event ideas for Memory Care residents.
  • Assist in the planning, and development of the Life Enrichment Calendars and Outings in MEMORY CARE
  • Collaborates and assists with the Director of LE in arranging and setting up vendors/entertainment for MEMORY CARE and scheduling big programs from the calendar.

  • Submits calendar for publishing and distribution.
  • Collaborates and assists in arranging all LE vendors/independent contractors

  • Maintain and balance petty cash for MEMORY CARE
  • Manages and Maintains effective resident committees and communication with resident volunteers
  • Advocate for MEMORY CARE residents as well as a consistent presence
  • Submit Invoices, check request in a timely manner and according to SV accounting procedures
  • Assist in the maintenance of the LE budget with for MEMORY CARE, to include budget proposal and works within approved budget year.
  • Purchase and maintenance of activity equipment and supplies in a safe manner and organized manner.
  • Coordinates events with religious programming
  • Collects money and provides proper receipts of residents for specially planned events above and beyond Seacrest Village routine activities.
  • Keep accurate records of all money collected.
  • Participates in daily activities, annual events and quarterly events involving the Seacrest Campus and MEMORY CARE.
  • Invite and encourage residents participation in activities to include escorting and bringing residents to activities
  • Assist with the ambulation and safe transferring of residents from chairs, scooters, walkers, or wheelchairs.
  • Coordinate (room preps) and assist in the preparation and/or coordination of room set-ups, serving, clean up, including some furniture moving and climbing ladders of up to 8ft.
  • Coordinate with drivers and Director of LE the transportation schedule needed for day to day outings
  • Participates in the orientation of new residents including a profile for use in care planning.
  • Contributes to the service plan of the individual residents.
  • Works with the Director of LE to enhance the volunteer program, including the training of new volunteers and the scheduling of volunteers.
  • Assists with the annual recognition event for volunteers. Utilizes computer software to enhance presentation/promotion of activities
  • Utilize knowledge with community, city and county resources for programming and activity planning.
  • Report resident concerns to Director of LE and Directors of all programs or supervisor in charge.
  • Assists in MEMORY CARE. fitness program activities.
  • Life Enrichment programs will include some evenings, holidays and weekends.
  • Protect the rights and safety of the individual residents including the observance of the San Diego Hebrew Homes Jewish traditions.
  • Utilizes computer programming for signs, letters, memos, daily activity calendar, petty cash budget etc.
  • Understands safety signals (i.e.: emergency call systems, fire alarms, and able to communicate safety procedure to residents.
  • Carry radio to increase availability by front desk.

FACTORS AFFECTING WORK PERFORMANCE – attendance, reliability, interpersonal, adaptability, judgment, mission, adherence to policy and regulatory requirements.

  • Inform Director of LE of significant resident changes and needs.
  • Participate in management, staff and other meetings to support facility operations.
  • Represent Seacrest Village and department in a professional and positive manner within and outside the community; appearance and attitude.
  • Mission - Familiarize self and staff with Seacrest Village policies and procedures and same with the Jewish tradition as observed by our residents, family and guests.
  • Payroll/HR-uses current system to records hours worked, takes meal period by the 5th hour of work, and

    complete assigned tasks and checklist as administered by supervisor and/or the HR department.

  • Interpersonal - Create and maintain a positive work environment based on individual respect, responsibility, personal and professional growth.
  • As a matter of SV policy and federal and state law; attends HIPAA training, follows HIPAA confidentiality and privacy policy, applies “minimum necessary”, “needs to know” guidelines on all PHI information and reports non- compliance violations to Privacy Officer.
  • As a mandated reporter per DOJ requirements; attends Mandated Reporter Abuse training meetings, will report all abuse incidents; physical, emotional, financial, sexual, verbal, completing the 1) SOC 341 form, mailing or faxing, 2) calling the ombudsmen and/or department of health services; for Assisted Living and Independent Living, call ombudsmen, and APS (adult protective

X. PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk on their feet for several hours at a time. Hands, fingers, arms are frequently used for holding, stretching, and reaching. The employee will be expected to be able to climb or balance, kneel, stoop, bend and crouch. The employee must be able to lift or move, unassisted, up to 25 lbs. Excellent vision and hearing are required due to the safety of our residents. Good verbal communication.
