Desktop Support Engineer

Contract to hire

Wilmington, DEThe Desktop Engineering role is responsible for the design, documentation, implementation, deployment, and support of the Windows Desktop based operating system and supporting technologies. Regular job responsibilities will involve making design decisions, developing team standards, and documentation that is based on project initiatives' goals and/or changing business needs.Research solutions, providing functional and technical written evaluations of products and operating system upgrades and patches. Creation of desktop and laptop build processes. Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to identify and develop resolutions to complex problems.Creates software install packages for all desktop applications to ensure installation procedures are consistent. Provides automated procedures for testing, configuration, and implementation of desktops. Create and validate standard images and ensure proper documentation is completed and verified. Monitors the performance of desktop systems including the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI).The position will also need to play a substantial support role involving a variety of technologies, customer and team driven projects, handling trouble tickets on a priority basis, participation in tasks related to Service Desk and Desktop support service orders required to meet customer needs. A comprehensive performance management plan will involve the identification, discussion and implementation of personal and business related objectives and goals aimed at career and team development.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Knowledge of PC/laptop hardware, Windows OS (; Windows 10); MS Office Products.
  • Extensive knowledge using Microsoft’s SCCM, Group Policy Object, Active Directory, and implementation of AD group policies.
  • Script application installations with PowerShell, VBScript, for automated deployments. Additional consideration given for knowledge and administration of Tanium Software
  • Execute, create and evolve standardized technology solutions and operating procedures
  • Extensive knowledge and administration of Citrix products (XenDesktop, Receiver) a plus.
  • Experience writing documentation to capture process and technology details for repeatable high-quality results.
  • Ability to review service tickets and identify opportunities for improvement and enable defect elimination as part of our engineering cycles.
  • Responsible for the planning and engineering of the organization's Microsoft Windows desktop infrastructure that includes the implementation and design of hardware and software
  • Interacts as either a team leader or as a member of a team and work collaboratively with other departments.
  • Documents industry leading best practices and trains other Team members.
  • Work with and assist customers with installations, moves, adds, changes, refresh, testing and implementation of personal computer hardware/software systems.
  • Knowledge and experience administering Apple clients in the enterprise, is a plus.
  • Primary interaction point is end users across global business units.
  • On-call Rotation or off hours implementations may be required.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 5-7 years hardware and software desktop support and engineering experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have minimum 5 years or more experience resolving end users’ hardware and software issues in an IT environment.
  • Expert knowledge of Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Office Suite of applications.
  • 1 or more of the following Certifications are preferred (MCSA, MCSE, MCTS SCCM 2012, CCA-V)
  • Minimum of 2 years of progressive hands-on experience planning and engineering a Microsoft Windows desktop infrastructure for an organization.
  • Must have excellent communications skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent team and collaboration skills, with an ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in a technology-related field

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for extended periods
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be fully vaccinated and remain fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
