Job Objective:Serves as IT Desktop Support team member. Performs the engineering and configuration activities associated with building and deploying standard desktop hardware and software configurations. Coordinates the installation, management and troubleshooting of individual workstations. Answers questions and trains others to resolve workstation related hardware and software problems. Assists others in the physical configuration and set up for the workstations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:1. Coordinates and/or performs the work related to the installation and maintenance of hardware and software applications required for workstation functionality. Analyzes and identifies workstation requirements for users at all levels and provides recommendations either independently or in consultation with network administrators and/or IT management.

20-30% Daily2. Troubleshoots workstation hardware and software problems during working hours and after hours as required by urgency of situation. Responds to, researches, and resolves complex questions received through the Service Desk. Acts as product liaison between desktop users and third-party developers to solve technical issues regarding major hardware and software products.

15-20% Daily3. Instructs others and/or performs tasks necessary to configure new workstations and to identify and install the required operating and software system for the individual user. Installs or upgrades equipment and software as required to provide needed capabilities for the workstation user environment.

15-20% Daily4. Answers questions and instructs the Helpdesk unit to determine methods to resolve routine workstation hardware and software problems. Assists in the training of interns and Helpdesk personnel regarding workstation troubleshooting.

15-20% Daily5. Performs and/or manages changes to new or existing user network accounts.

15-20% As Needed6. Trains employees in the use of computer equipment and related software in informal sessions.

5-10% As Needed

7. Coordinates, installs and troubleshoots network and desktop related problems for the company specific applications. Installs required client software to allow access to them and updates the software as required on the individual user workstations.

5-10% As Needed8. Participates in technology related product research, installation, evaluation, testing and implementation. Acquires and maintains knowledge of relevant product offerings, and methods of support delivery to provide technically accurate solutions to users.

10-20% As Needed 9. May perform nightly backup routines for the network servers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: (minimum qualifications needed to perform essential job function)

Required Knowledge:
  • Bachelor degree in computer science or related field or equivalent
  • 2-3 years related work experience
  • Workstation software such as Microsoft Office and Windows Operating Systems
  • Workstation shrinkwrap software such as office suite, Outlook, and security software
  • Workstation hardware component knowledge

Preferred Knowledge:
  • Department practices and procedures
  • Insurance related background

Skills:
  • Calculator
  • Workstation maintenance and configuration
  • Excellent oral communication with all levels of the organization

Abilities:
  • Identify and analyze workstation users’ needs
  • Work independently
  • Maintain strict confidentiality
  • Train workstation users
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
