- The Data Analyst will work on the Data Science team to support team projects as well as data analysis requests from a wide variety of AEP Business Units partners.
- Data exploration - Responsible for identifying, collecting, and exploring data in databases, flat files, and big data platforms. Examine and clean different types of data (structured/unstructured, categorical, text, numeric) using tools like Excel and coded languages such as R, Python, SAS, etc.
- Data and business understanding - Work closely with business partners to understand business problems, frame questions, interpret data, analyze trends, and propose analyses that will deliver actionable insights. Display intense curiosity about the context and meaning of data.
- Results delivery - Carefully interpret and summarize results, create insightful visualizations, draft reports, and deliver presentations to a wide-ranging audience (technical SMEs, executive sponsors, etc.).
- Able to understand stakeholder needs and participate in the formation of business case and project scope.
- Demonstrates breadth and depth of business analysis techniques and tools for use case modeling, data modeling, and process mapping.
- Learns new domain by collaborating with business and technical teams
- Demonstrates facilitation and process improvement skills.
- Creates analysis work plans and estimates of analysis activities
- Conducts workshops for requirements elicitation, creates documentation, establishes business capabilities, and ensures asset organization and refinement.
- Proves technical aptitude utilizing querying tools and understanding relational databases.
- Applies technology solutions by translating business requirements into conceptual, logical, and physical data models, and system configuration
- Participate in process redesign and support including using tools, responding to user questions, problem diagnosis, recognition and solutions for process improvements, research, troubleshooting, tracking and resolution.
- May provide training and mentoring, as well as work direction, to others on the team.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, business or related field of study;
- Or Associate's degree in computer science or related field of study with 2 years of relevant work experience;
- Or High school diploma/GED with 4 years of relevant work experience.
- In addition to any experience required above, 5 years of relevant work experience is required.

- In addition to any experience required above, 7 years of relevant work experience is required.
- Experience performing intermediate-level data analysis to answer open-ended questions
- Experience working with a variety of BI tools (e.g., Cognos, Tableau, Power BI, R Shiny) and data sources to analyze, transform, and tell meaningful stories through data
- Experience querying databases and coding data manipulation (e.g., R, python, SAS, etc.)
- Experience working with large datasets (beyond the scope of Excel)
- Experience collaborating with business and data SMEs to find and understand available data
- Experience with common data quality pitfalls and appropriate techniques to remedy
- Experience with appropriate methods to be applied to various data types
- Solid understanding of basic statistics and correlation analyses
- Working knowledge of data warehousing, data governance, and enterprise reporting
- Bachelors degree in a quantitative field of business, analytics, physical or social sciences, engineering, math, statistics
- Familiarity with the utility industry a bonus, not required
- Strong Communication Skills
