Job Description:The Wound and Hyperbaric Services Medical Director is responsible for performance and quality of all areas of wound and hyperbaric care throughout Intermountain Healthcare. The Medical Director works collaboratively with all disciplines including specialty care, communitycare services, shared clinical services, and the clinically integrated network. This position leads, oversees, and supports developing a culture of high reliability and the measurement of care. The Director identifies opportunities, builds relationships, and executes on strategies to drive performance. This position champions provider growth and development, innovation, continuous improvement, and is accountable for the successes of the Wound and Hyperbaric Shared Service. This leader promotes excellence in the fundamentals of extraordinary care (safety, quality, patient experience, access, stewardship, engaged caregivers, and smart growth).ScopeThe Medical Director is a system-wide role reporting to the ACMO of Community Care. While primary relationships include wound and hyperbaric providers, this position is expected to collaborate, communicate, and build relationships with all members of the Community Care, Specialty Care, and Wound and Hyperbaric Shared Services healthcare team.Essential Job DutiesLeads Physician and Advanced Practice Clinician collaborations for wound and hyperbaric services. Defines and establishes care models that best meet patient needs and the fundamentals of extraordinary care.

Leads the process of identifying where care should be provided across the system.

Ensures that evidence-based clinical care standards are established and implemented system-wide. In collaboration with system ACMOs, establishes professional standards for physicians within the service structure.

Ensures system-wide physician alignment for the service.

Participates in the mapping of the patient care journey from community care settings through episodic care settings, collaborating effectively at all vertical intersections.

Supports and drives results for key quality, experience, cost, and utilization metrics from Community-based care, Specialty-based care, and the Office of Patient Experience.

Supports and drives results for the fundamentals of care with concern for reducing the cost of care/per member per month (pmpm).

Communicates the work and successes of the service to boards, colleagues, community, and other health systems.

Provides specialty care with "One Intermountain" credentialing criteria for specialty providers within the service.

Leads the physician recruitment process for specialists within the service including, leading the development of the annual physician recruitment plan for the service in collaboration with the service planners and the Medical Group planner, involving all key stakeholders in the process, and ensuring access to information in a timely, efficient way, with appropriate coordination, documentation, and use of digital tools and technology.

Addresses performance concerns for providers including peer review for cases within the service, in collaboration with the system ACMOs.

Supports appropriate research endeavors within the service by working collaboratively with the Office of Research.

Participates in the annual strategic planning process for the service, establishing annual goals and key performance metrics. Ensures goals are achieved and maintains goals set by the organization.

Conducts annual performance conversations for physicians within the service.

Develops and implements strategy for research in alignment with the Office of Research.

Develops and implements strategy for provider education within the service.

Assists in upholding the shared commitments throughout the service.

This physician is the model wound and hyperbaric physician for our model healthcare system as evidenced by:

Effective implementation of the Intermountain operating model

Minimum RequirementsM.D. or D.O. Degree. Education must be obtained through an ACGME or AOA accredited institution. Degree will be verified.

Board Certification in Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine under the ABEM, AOCUHM, or ABPM

or certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) through the Program for Advanced Training in Hyperbaric Medicine.Active Utah Medical Licensure, or in process of obtaining licensure, is required.

Three years of clinical experience working as a Wound and Hyperbaric physician.

Two years of experience leading successful improvement in clinical settings.

Two years of progressive healthcare leadership experience.

Experience with change management and leading the adaptation and implementation of new processes or technology that enhance safety.

Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred QualificationsMaster's degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Public Health or other business-related field. Education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.

Trained in improvement science (i.e., Six Sigma, Lean, Project management, Advanced Training Program).

Experience working in a complex health system (hospitals, ambulatory clinics, post-acute care, etc.).

Demonstrated leadership of clinicians.

Certified in healthcare communication, coaching or an equivalent experience with external entities that drive and support Experience of Care approaches and standards, including government agencies, academic institutions, universities and related organizations of higher education, and other public institutions.
