Handyman Description:Skilled generalist in all the tradesAppliances: troubleshooting dishwashers, fridges, clothes washers, dryers, disposals, microwaves, stoves, Water Heaters, FurnacesKnowledge of common problems, things to check first (power/water supply, reset switches, traps/filters, orifices etc.) (knowledge of electric, natural gas, and plumbing)Plumbing troubleshooting: (usually clogs, leaks (difference between drain leak and supply leak)) can identify malfunctioning components within a fixture and repair/replace minimum parts; how to swap all fixtures (toilets, faucets, disposals, shower components, general toilet knowledge: inside and out.) How to run a snake, understanding of DWV. Can install valves and fittings in copper, pvc, galvanized, and cpvc for supply and DWV.Electrical: usually lighting and switches, able to at least swap fixtures, switches, outlets, knows way around a breaker box. Buzzer/intercom and coax networkingCarpentry: can read a tape measure, framing and finish/trim work: can use a table saw, circular saw, chop saw on site and in field; Stair repair, handrails, trim, weather stripping, thresholds and floors repair and finishing, cabinets: fixing and installing (loose hardware, hinges, drawer slides)Example: Can rebuild something like a doorframe where the lockset had busted throughHVAC basics: which ducts are which; how to swap a filter, what is an error code? Very basic troubleshooting on furnaces. How to cut sheet metal (4” round, usually)Drywall and paint/finishing: how to hang, tape, and finish drywall. How to patch plaster and drywall walls. How to prime and paint surfaces. How to caulk; how to choose correct type for various applications: kitchen & bath, painter’s, exterior vs interior, door/window/trim etc.General troubleshooting:How to identify/troubleshoot types of leaks from dry evidence/stains on surfaces (roof vs condensate pan for instance)How to swap/repair door hardware: knobs and deadbolts, how to adjust doors for proper closing (catch plates, replace springs in mortise cassettes); apply weather strippingFamiliarity with general installation standards in order to identify improper installations, or common trouble spots across all trades (windows, plumbing fixtures, brick and masonry, doors (int and ext), roofingHow to hang things like tp holders and towel holders properly anchored to take weight/dynamic useCustomer service: polite, courteous, quick, clean (maintain minimal disruption of occupied tenant space) be able to explain in layman’s terms what you’re doing (if they’re curious, or ill at ease)If interested contact Nick Wojcik (630)645-3574, nwojcik@aerotek.comAbout Aerotek:We know that a company's success starts with its employees.
