On-Call, As-Needed Paraeducator Substitute

The Santa Barbara County Education Office is seeking qualified individuals for the position of Parapeducator with the Special Education department at various sites throughout north county and the Santa Ynez valley. This is a part time, on-call/as needed position.
JOB SUMMARY:
Assist teachers and staff in providing cognitive instructional, therapeutic, and/or medical support to students with severe and physical disabilities including students with multiple handicaps, emotional disturbance, and severe orthopedic, visual, or hearing impairments.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The position requires a high school diploma and the ability to pass a proficiency examination demonstrating knowledge and ability to assist with instructing children/students in reading, writing, and mathematics; 48 or more semester units of higher education will substitute for the proficiency examination. Requires six months of work, volunteer, or personal experience providing care or instruction to infants or children, or to children or adults with disabilities, is preferred.
Fingerprint verification of eligibility for employment will be required of selected applicant at his/her expense.
INCENTIVE: We have implemented a new incentive program this fiscal year: receive $100 after 120 hours worked subbing; another $100 upon 360 hours worked subbing.
