The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is looking for a Heavy Equipment journey level field mechanic and a shop mechanic in our Pueblo location.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Working as a CDOT field mechanic will provide you with the opportunity to put your mechanical knowledge and skills to the test. CDOT has a variety of small and large equipment, different makes and models, as well as equipment ranging in age from 0-20+ years of age. You will often have challenging and peculiar issues to diagnose and troubleshoot. The equipment may need to be worked on in the field where it breaks down, or it can be brought back to a small shop. Our field mechanics also coordinate with our larger equipment shop to transfer equipment to them if more tools and space are required to complete the repairs. Our heavy equipment mechanics are responsible for ensuring the readiness and operational safety of the equipment 24 hours/7 days a week in all weather conditions.

WHAT CDOT PROVIDES:

- Personal protective equipment, such as uniforms, boots, hard hats, gloves, safety vest, respirator, and tools

- CDOT provides laundry service for mechanic uniforms

- CDL training and testing

- Full payment for your CDL physical, after your first year with CDOT

- Partial reimbursement (up to 50%) for your CDL renewal as well as for ASE certifications, after your first year with CDOT

- CPR and first-aid training

- Variety of career training opportunities

- 40-hour work weeks, with opportunity for overtime during weather emergencies

- 4-day work schedule during summer months (May - October) Monday - Thursday 6:30 AM to 5 PM

During winter months (November - April) work schedule is Monday - Friday 8 AM to 4:30 PM

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in automotive AND heavy equipment repair, which includes at least one (1) year of experience with diagnosis and repair of heavy diesel equipment, with current proficiency at the journey level.

Will be required to obtain a valid Colorado Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B with no restriction on air brakes within 90 days of hire as a condition of continued employment. CDOT provides the CDL training and testing.
